Summary

After department layoffs and an increase in crime, Crime Scene Specialist and Bloodstain Pattern Analyst Renee McKenzie develops her own crime scene team of junior interns, including her own daughter, Crime Scene Specialist and Forensic Photographer Bailey McKenzie; Firearms Examiner Jake Wayne (Bailey’s nemesis since childhood); Fingerprint Examiner Ernesto Rodriguez; DNA Analyst Lindsey Smith; and Trace Evidence and Digital Forensics Analyst Dorian Dong. The team arrives to their biggest crime scene yet, a triple homicide involving drug trafficking.

Bailey’s father, DEA Agent Liam McKenzie, is a supportive figure to the team and is brought in to help with the investigation as the “players” of this case appear to be connected to something bigger than a local narcotics investigation.

Great for teens!

A great introduction into the audiobook world for me. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review, and I enjoyed the experience. I do feel like this book is intended for a younger audience, taking into account the point of view of the storyteller and style of writing. So the storyline seemed a bit simplistic and predictable to me. But it still had parts and characters that made me smile and root for, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading a story that included characters of faith. I would recommend this book to any young reader or teen, particularly those with an interest in crime scene investigation!
The narrator did a fantastic job, with dynamic reading and emotion. While I appreciated the attempt at a Scottish accent for the father character, I didn’t quite buy it, however. It could’ve taken me out of the story, but my love for that character superseded the inaccuracy.
Thanks for the experience, and I am now an audiobook fan! Will definitely do this more often.

Entertaining, Educational, and Encouraging

I received a promotional copy of Bailey McKenzie, and this review is based on my experience listening to this book. Bailey McKenzie is the first audio book that I have ever listened to. Being a hard-core “I want to hold the book in my hands” type of person, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I greatly enjoyed it. I enjoyed listening to the narration with the different voices and accents … I could picture the characters and felt as though I came to know them and cared for them. The narration is clear and at a pace that is easy to keep up with what is happening in the story. The story itself is very interesting. I love mysteries, and this one presents enough information to involve you in figuring out what happened, but not so much that you know the ending before you get to the end. I learned a lot about crime scene analysis! The relationships between the characters are realistic and add depth to the story. The storyline advances using humor, adventure, suspense, and just enough romantic interest appropriate for the characters. There are twists and turns that make it hard to stop listening! Also, the story is a positive read with clean language, respectful interpersonal relationships, and the inclusion of faith in God. I hope there will be additional titles that will allow me to see how these characters develop!
