About this listen
A reputation, a mistake, and years of separation.
Melanie Danvers thinks her life is on track. She has a successful career, great friends, and a special someone in her life. But when she least expects it, fate throws her a curveball—a face from the past—the man who deemed their one night together a mistake.
After eight years away, a temporary work contract brings Steven MacAlistar back to his hometown—a place to which he thought he’d never return. It only takes one encounter with Melanie to make him realize that despite the long absence, his heart has never left.
Inextricably linked, Melanie and Steven discover they have their own lessons to learn, mistakes to forgive, and fears to overcome before they can even hope for a future together. With all there is to lose and reputations to salvage, will Melanie and Steven finally take that bold leap of faith and get their happily ever after?
This is the first book in the New Haven series, following the lives of a group of people who are linked through family, friends, and employees. It can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. A happy ending is guaranteed, and there are no cliffhangers. (No swearing and kisses only.)

A TESTAMENT TO THE POWER OF LOVE, SECOND CHANCES AND FACING OUR FEARS
From the first chapter, I was hooked; a romance that skillfully weaves together themes of love, regret, and the complexity of human connections. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the gorgeous leafy Newhaven. Samantha does a great job of bringing the scenery to life.
The meticulous descriptions of the parks and the changing leaves add an almost magical quality to the story, making me feel as though I were strolling through the town alongside the characters and smelling the freshness of the air.
At the heart of this book is Melanie Danvers, a well-rounded and relatable main character.
I was rooting for her from the start. Her journey is marked by self-discovery and resilience as she is presented with challenges by the unexpected return of her past— the handsome Steven MacAlistar.
Their reunion is charged with emotion, and the chemistry between the two is fire, which adds a tension that shoots the story forward beautifully.
One of my other favourite characters is Sophie, Melanie’s daughter. Sophie is lively which adds a cute dynamic to the story. Whenever Sophie appeared on the page it’s hard not to smile. Loved her innocent child-like questions, and humour, which is how a kid of that age truly thinks and also bought back memories of my own then little girl.
The relationship between Melanie and her best friend, Alex, is another standout moment for me but in a different way. Alex has a protective nature and her support is unwavering.
The way Alex cares for Sophie’s need for a father figure again resonated with me deeply and added layers of emotional depth to the story. Not only that, it was a heartwarming addition to the main storyline between Melanie and Steven.
Samantha cleverly explores the theme of reputation—how past mistakes can linger and shape our lives and relationships. As Melanie and Steven confront their shared history, the story dips into forgiveness and the courage it takes to embrace the future. The pacing was great, giving room to a well-developed plot with high emotional stakes without ever losing momentum.
I appreciated the focus on character development and the way Samantha blended tender moments with tension and conflict.
Bad Reputation, from start to finish, is a sweet and engaging romance that left me wanting more. It’s a testament to the power of love, second chances, and the importance of facing our fears. I am sure the other books in this New Haven series will undoubtedly continue to captivate and inspire readers. Highly recommended for Hallmark romance fans or anyone seeking a sweet heartfelt read set in a picturesque town. I listened to the audiobook version and l flew through it.

Romance at its best!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, the Narrator was fantastic she made the characters feel so real, and her voice is so
enchanted. I loved the clean but very romantic closed door sensation of the romance! Very well written, as a reader or listener you are able to clearly visualise the scenes and characters as though you were a part of their lives too! The chapters are effective and have a few cliff hanger moments where you just want to keep listening to see what happens. Highly recommended for a lovely escapism novel.
