About this listen

In the gripping new Baby Ganesh Agency novel, Inspector Chopra and his elephant sidekick investigate the death of one of Mumbai's wealthiest citizens, a murder with ramifications for its poorest.

The Parsees are among the oldest, most secretive and most influential communities in the city: respected, envied and sometimes feared.

When prominent industrialist Cyrus Zorabian is murdered on holy ground, his body dumped inside a Tower of Silence - where the Parsee dead are consumed by vultures - the police dismiss it as a random killing. But his daughter is unconvinced.

Chopra, uneasy at entering this world of power and privilege, is soon plagued by doubts about the case.

But murder is murder. And in Mumbai, wealth and corruption go in hand in hand, inextricably linking the lives of both high and low....

Really enjoyed the return trip to Mumbai.

Love all the characters and the sights and sounds of Mumbai conjured up by both Vaseem Khan’s writing and Madhav Sharma’s narration.

Wonderful narration of a fascinating story

I so enjoyed this production. The narrators Indian accent gave authenticity, humour and depth to the story.,
Khan has done an admirable and accessible job of tying together the threads of ancient India, the Raj and modern times in Mumbai.
As the daughter of an ex Colonialist, there was much that resonated with my snippets of oral memory.
I just loved it!
When do we get a movie??!!

A thoroughly interesting story

You are drawn into another world of different cultures that live in Mumbai and the lives of the characters that not only interweave in a gripping story but enrich the listener. The elephant is loveable and believable, the Inspector honest and genuine. His values and thoughts run through his novels which are brought to life by the voice of the reader and are joy to listen to.

A good successor to previous books

I look forward to Khan's books and this did not disappoint. I would have liked a bit more of Ganesh in it - he is more in the background this time, although (as expected) saves the day at some point. I wasn't sure about the narration at first but got into it. Overall an enjoyable listen.

A good story brilliantly told

I've read several books in the excellent Inspector Chopra series and enjoyed all of them. Madhav Sharma's narration was perfect for the story. I love his slow pace and the way he interprets characters. He's a fine old-fashioned storyteller.

Great story couldn't put it down

Looking forward to the next installment. I now have two favourite Indian detective writers. The other is Tarquin Hall.

Up to his usual high standard

Enjoyed this latest audiobook with clear narration which added to the enjoyment. Only four stars as it was just a bit too detailed for me - I am squeamish - about the Parsee way of death. I enjoy this series, is it not too complicated but still tells a rattling good yarn.
