Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The clock is ticking…

Detective Constable Angus MacVicar has just landed his dream job – transferred out of uniform and assigned to Oldcastle’s biggest ongoing murder investigation: Operation Telegram, hunting the “Fortnight Killer”.

Every two weeks another couple is targeted. One victim is left at the scene, their corpse used as a twisted message board. The second body is never seen again.

This should be the perfect chance for Angus to prove himself, but instead of working on the investigation’s front line, he’s lumbered with the forensic psychologist from hell. A jetlagged, sarcastic, know-it-all American, on loan from the FBI, who seems determined to alienate everyone while dragging Angus into a shadowy world of conspiracies, lies, and violence.

It’s been twelve days since the Fortnight Killer last struck, and the investigation’s running out of time. The darkness is growing, and if Angus isn’t careful, it’ll swallow him whole…

Stuart MacBride is Back!!

I absolutely loved this book, the story kept me gripped from beginning to end and Angus King is the best narrator out there by a country mile - Stuart + Angus = Win Win!!

I loved the new characters - Angus is a total hero and I couldn't help comparing him and Dr Fife to characters from Game of Thrones, utterly brilliant!

I really hope this becomes a new series (but not until after the next Logan McRae).

Inventive human horrors with heart and humour

Always written with humour and an eye to grounded normality, Mr McBride’s books never fail to arouse satisfying squinty cringes one moment and snorts of laughter the next. Great characters and sharp observations on everyday life mixed in. Good on Fiona and all the furry crew (though miss Grendel’s acknowledgment..)

Good, but too long, needs editing

It's enjoyable, but far, far too long, unnecessarily so. It has the usual enjoyable stuff, but it's overly repetitive of 'ding-buzz of his phone', and numerous other phrases that are engaging first time round, but become irritating. It would benefit from a really good edit which could cut out the dross and maintain the life of the story.
It's a first for me, but I almost gave up on it about three quarters of the way through. It dragged on and on. The overly extended description of the drunken night out became tedious, hearing those same phrases again and again was wearing. I prevailed, and it was worth it, just.

Match made in heaven

When stuart mcbride meets Angus king
Was so looking forward to this one
I've read a lot of Stuart MC books and listened even more Angus king narrations. He's brilliant
He certainly brought life to the book
I thought the story was a little long drawn out at times but with the excellent narration the characters grew on me
Hope theres more from this duo
Bravo

Good fun

Another fun read from Stuart McBride with a worthy duo at the lead to step into the shoes of DS Logan McRae and DI Steel.

Some of the plot development was a bit predictable and it was a tad too long & would have benefitted from more editing; however, overall it was really enjoyable with some great news characters I hope we'll see more of.
