Summary
An all-star comedy about love, life and everything in-between
Living in flats in a converted house in North London, a group of middle-aged neighbours navigate their careers, love lives and family dramas in this charming sitcom full of heart.
Mitch is a widower and part-time therapist who is looking to put his life back together. Now single, he has temporarily moved in with Will, his younger, more volatile and unhappily divorced half-brother. Elsewhere in the building are schoolteacher Ellie who is shy, nervous and desperately missing her ex-boyfriend, as well as overly honest, frustrated actress Louisa, and socially inept IT nerd Morris. Follow the hilarious highs and lows as these strangers connect and their lives become entwined, for better or worse…
Featuring Angus Deayton (Have I Got News For You, One Foot in the Grave) as Mitch and Pearce Quigley (The Detectorists) as Will, Alone also stars TV’s Abigail Cruttenden (Sharpe, Not Going Out), Kate Isitt (Coupling), plus writer and stand-up comedian Bennett Arron. Listen to all four series of this hugely popular show in this brand-new collection.
This collection also includes exclusive behind the scenes interviews with the cast and with show creator Moray Hunter.

light comedy
enjoyable, brilliant characters, entertaining and acting. Shame the story has come to a natural ending.

Delightful
I listened to this originally on BBC sounds and was so excited when it arrived on audible. I have listened to it over and over again since purchasing on its release date. A truly delightful and charming comedy drama, with a superb cast and wonderful storylines. I want to live in the house with Mitch, Will, Ellie, Louisa and Maurice….they feel like my best friends. I cannot recommend this enough, it is a pure delight without exception. I love it.

Lovely little show, well worth a credit
I used to listen to this in passing on Radio 4 and then R4Extra and always enjoyed it without quite finding it essential listening. But all 4 series in one go plus some interviews makes this a very worthwhile use of a credit.
Whilst Deayton is arguably the star and probably the most recognisable (certainly audibly) of the characters all 5 leads are great and well written and the stories never decend into mawkish sentimentality when they easily could do, especially in the final series when the will they / won't they is somewhat resolved.
The only issue is the third series; presumably absurd Covid restrictions meant that a studio audience couldn't be present (and doubtless the performers all kept well apart, with their pointless little masks on when they weren't speaking) and the lack of live reaction and laughing is noticeable. All the performers but particularly Deayton really have their timing upset by the lack of reaction, and while i don't need to be told when to laugh, a live audience enjoying the show particularly adds to Alone. The use of a covid positive test as a plot device near the end of the series is an unwelcome reminder of the asininity of those times.
All in all a jolly good listen and the bonus interviews are good as a little extra too.
