How can science help us live better and longer?
We are living through an exciting revolution in biology. Giant strides are being made in our understanding of why we age, and why some species live longer than others. Will we soon be able to cheat disease and death and live for a very long time, possibly many times our current lifespan?
In Why We Die, Ramakrishnan takes us on a riveting journey to the frontiers of biology. He explains the latest scientific understanding of exactly why we age and how we might prevent it. He examines the cutting-edge efforts to extend lifespan by altering our natural biology and raises profound questions. Might death serve a necessary biological purpose? As science advances, what will it mean for us all if people start living longer? And how can we increase our chances of living long, healthy and fulfilled lives?
Why We Die is a narrative of uncommon insight and beauty from one of our leading public intellectuals.
'An incredible journey.' - SIDDHARTHA MUKHERJEE
'Joyfully alive' - STEVE BRUSATTE
'Scientists do not come much more eminent than Venki Ramakrishnan... wonderfully readable... fascinating.' FINANCIAL TIMES

A thoughtful and insightful look at aging
Really an excellent piece of work. cuts calmly but clearly through tech-bro hype about longevity.

Mildly mis- titled
Erudite and expertly presented summary of the biology of aging - not really addressing the evolutionary role of death itself

Great book but distracting readinf
The book itself is great. Very informative and well written. The narration isn't though. It sounds like it's cobbled together from different readings. Often it seems like the narrator is either out of breath or adding pauses midsentence without any reason. For me it was so distracting that I switched to the printed version. Quite a letdown for an otherwise great book

The frontier off what has been achived.
I like it overall, but still wanted an overveiw off what works and what dident prove to work. Allso more indepth off the technology that showed promise to work. And allso more about crisper and Mrna technology.

An interesting journey to the end
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but was pleasantly surprised. It was a wide ranging discussion of a subject in we all share an interest. However I am not sure it answers the question it sets in the title. A good listen though, nicely narrated.

The narration was very distracting
For the first time in 8 years using audible I wish I’d read this rather than listened to it. The narrator sounds like AI, the cadence and pronunciation is all over the place. The book itself is really thorough and interesting.
