About this listen
Fully dramatised adaptations of all 60 Sherlock Holmes stories, brought to life with a full cast of actors, sound effects and music
Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and his dear friend Dr Watson are among the most enduringly popular fictional characters ever created. Their adventures have been dramatised countless times on radio, TV and film, but until BBC Radio 4 took on the challenge in 1989, no one had ever attempted to adapt all sixty stories.
Beginning with A Study in Scarlet and concluding with The Hound of the Baskervilles, their epic project took over 8 years to complete - and this landmark collection contains the extraordinary result of their labours. Here is the world's first ever fully dramatised Sherlock Holmes canon: 56 short stories and 4 novels, all made by the same team of directors, producers, dramatists and leading actors, and packed with the high production qualities of a film or TV drama that set it apart.
Starring one of radio's great double acts, Clive Merrison and Michael Williams, as Holmes and Watson, and with guest stars including Brian Blessed, Judi Dench, Maurice Denham, Andrew Sachs, Peter Davison, Robert Glenister and Harriet Walter, this definitive collection contains over 48 hours of enthralling listening.
Also included is a bonus interview with Adrian Conan Doyle about his father, Sir Arthur, and some fascinating behind-the-scenes revelations from the series' head writer, Bert Coules, about the making of the radio adaptations.

A marvellous collection of Sherlock Holmes dramas
This monumental audiobook is a masterpiece and in the hands of Clive Merrisson and Michael Williams as Holmes and Watson is a true classic. The BBC production is excellent with a star studded supporting cast. Highly recommended!

Well done all rounf
I've only listened to the first story, A Study in Scarlet, but if the rest are as good then it will be a great listen. Strangely though, on hearing it initially, I thought that it didn't feel true to the book. However it turns out I didn't really know the story at all. I realise that it is the one story I have only read once and I had forgotten most of it. Having had a quick glance at it, I realise that this play is pretty faithful. I'm looking forward to the rest of them, particularly Hound of the Baskervilles, which is my favourite. The only things I'm not now totally happy with, is that Sherlock seems to be a little angrier than I remember him from the books and he and Watson seem to be less friendly. A good start nevertheless. Sherlock Holmes has always been my favourite character. He and Watson have kept me entertained for many hours. So I like all interpretations to be faithful to the story. I guess I am a bit of a Sherlock Holmes nerd.

quality from beginning to end.
I'm old enough to remember buying these on cassette. In those days you would get 4 stories on 2 cassettes, and the price for one set was more than I paid for the entire collection, so this really is astounding value. The production values throughout are outstanding, and Clive Merrison and Michael Williams are the perfect duo. I can't recommend highly enough.

Very Good.
Best Shlock Home i here and definitely words listen to it again.
Did find the musical was too loud at beginning of each day and end.
But Really good background noise to each story so it help you to really imagine what was happening to each story.

Excellent
Wonderful collection. Well done Audible. It would be great if the next series transferred to Audible was the Sherlock Holmes of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.

just brilliant!!!
The performance of Clive Morrison and the late , sadly missed, Michael Williams is simply superb. These rank alongside the Jeremy Brett televised excellence. The introduction said Clive and Michael were friends and that definitely seemed apparent during their performances. If you love Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, you must listen to these performances from two outstanding actors and performers. The B.B.C at its best doing what it's supposed to do!.
Simply brilliant and outstanding. If he hasn't got one...please...a medal for Mr. Merrison.
