Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Explore the thrilling origins of the druid Doric in this original prequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
For as long as she can remember, Doric has felt alone. Abandoned by her human parents, she wandered for years before being taken in by a community of Neverwinter Woods elves. But her horns and tail proclaim a tiefling heritage, and even among the kindest of elves, her fledgling druidic abilities mark her as different from the rangers around her. And as humans begin to encroach farther and farther into the once pristine woods, Doric knows she needs to master her druidic capabilities if she is to be any help to her adopted family. With no means of helping Doric themselves, her guardians see no choice but to send her somewhere she can come into her own.
Tucked among the ancient pines of the Ardeep Forest hides the Emerald Enclave, an order of warriors tasked with preserving the natural world. They fight to maintain balance between the forces of the wild and civilization, and in doing so, protect the sanctity of each.
Among their order, Doric begins to find power in her differences. But not all her fellow initiates are so capable of new growth, and as her training continues, Doric is forced to confront the very beliefs that brought her into the Enclave's fold. If she's going to protect her home, she'll have to reckon with her people, her power, and the walls she's built to keep herself safe from both.

It's not what I expected, but in a good way.
This is the first novel by E. K. Johnston, that I have explored and I loved it. I truly hope that we will see more Forgotten Realms novels that talented author.
The performance was also amazing. The memories of the main character are an important part of this novel and you can easily tell when a memory segment starts by the change in the voice of the narrator. It was truly beautiful.
But what about the novel? It's is not what I expected. It is not the classic heroic fantasy adventure novel. No, it is a different thing. It takes some real world problems and presents them through the prism of the Realms. It shows the difficulties that one young person has to go through to become their best self.

A beautiful, well read story which intertwines perfectly with the Honour Amongst Thieves film.
Doric is one of my favourite characters from Honour Amongst Thieves and this story recounts her background and how she became the powerful Druid that we know and love.
The narrator has a masterful grip in accenting the different characters and when switching between Doric's tragic early years and her present day with the Wood Elves of Neverwinter and the Druids of the Emerald Enclave, the narration changes texture to place you in the right place.
I thoroughly recommend this audio book and also The Road to Neverwinter.

A very nice little story
It really is a nice prequel story to the film, and very very well narrated. Great background to the character, I really enjoyed it.
