Never before have so many people run so many miles, or set themselves such ambitious targets, in pursuit of self-fulfillment: marathons, ultra-marathons, extreme adventures. Askwith's quest for the secrets of running longevity takes him on a long, mystifying journey: to laboratories and running tracks, cities and remote mountain villages, on several continents. Inspiring

This book at times looks as if it’s about international masters running. Which in a sense it is. But in fact it’s a touching exploration of mortality, philosophical and inspiring. Thank you to Richard for writing it.

Inspiring

I read this book and started training so that I can become a masters athlete. I never thought such a thing would happen but I feel great just with the hope this will happen.

Gives a great insight into masters running

In my opinion this is one of the most inspirational running books out there. Whether you’re already a masters runner or thinking about taking up or resuming the sport when you may have thought your best days were in the past you’ll be truly amazed by some of the real life stories in this book.

Depressing and encouraging!

I did enjoy listening to Richard and found him encouraging and depressing at the same time! Being a fell-runner in a previous life and once again taking up the baton of hill training again in my late sixties, I can see that there’s still some hope before the grim reaper calls my name! Thanks Richard!!

Enjoyable listen.

Once again I have enjoyed a book by Richard. Positive and interesting life stories of many ordinary people whose athletic performances are extraordinary. Makes you want to get off the couch and do something that may just improve your healthspan!

A treat to listen to especially if you have any interest in running. Truly inspiring and makes you want to just keep on running! Everyone over 40 should read this, take note and act on it. As a physiotherapist I can’t recommend highly enough!

Good insight

Richard is a great writer, and the way he interweaves his personal journey with stories of extraordinary older athletes makes for an absorbing read. I do feel he dwells on the vicissitudes of ageing a bit relentlessly, but I suppose that's the point of the book. Very well narrated by the author.

I’m starting my next stage of ‘mature’ running
