Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The first new Dragonlance novel from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman in over a decade, and featuring fan-favorite characters from the iconic first two trilogies, Dragonlance Chronicles and Dragonlance Legends—books that brought a generation of fans into the fantasy fold.

Destina Rosethorn—as her name implies—believes herself to be very much a favored child of destiny. But when her father dies in the War of the Lance, her carefully constructed world comes crashing down. Not only does she lose her beloved father, but the legacy he has left her: a wealthy fiancé, and rule over the family lands and castle. With nothing left in the world to support her but wits and determination, she hatches a bold plan: to secure the Device of Time Journeying she read about in one of her father's books and prevent her father's death.

The last known holder of the Device was one of the Heroes of the Lance: the free-spirited kender, Tasselhoff Burrfoot. But when Destina arrives in Solace - home not only to Tas but to fellow heroes Caramon and Tika Majere—she sets into motion a chain of events more deadly than she had ever anticipated, one that could change not only her personal history but the fate of the entire world, allowing a previously defeated evil to once again gain ascendancy.

Dragonlance returns

as a long time fan of the original Dragonlance stories I was eager to see if this would be a retelling or something utterly different.

happily it was both. the story manages to link brilliantly with the originals and add a new twist in the tale.

I'm looking forward to the continuation as well as the release of new Dragonlance content for the D&D 5th edition RPG.

The last few chapters are a doozy

If you haven't read a dragon lance book then it's a good book, but you would best read the first two trilogies only so you can understand everyone and the back stories. It's not essential as it's perfectly readable without.

If you are a dl fan I want you to imagine a few things.

Tas
The time travel device
A grey gem leaking a little chaos.
Tas travelling to a fateful day where companions meet up after five years, where they meet a lady with a blue staff.
Imagine how important that time is...

And imagine a book ending with two names now appearing on the muster role for the first Huma dragon War.

Sturm Brightblade
Raistlin Majere

And tell me you aren't excited about the second book....

Enjoyed it

A blast from the past and I really enjoyed it, much better than I was expecting. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

an interesting beginning

I quite enjoyed this story. Destina and her family were very interesting to get to know. I liked how it touched on familiar territory without making the story about those familiar characters (until it did). I love those characters and I am looking forward to seeing where the story. The reader's pronunciation threw me off in a few places.

Disappointment or too high expectations?

Unfortunately, the segments of the book I enjoyed the most were the ones without Destina

Dragon lance is back!

Been waiting a long time for this and it is finally back. Love how the story unfolds and links to all the lore that has gone before it.

Blast from the past

I read the original Chronicles in the mid 80s and dragonlance was my go to for a good fantasy story to me it's up there with LOTR or Shannara. but I felt it lost its way with the chaos war and second generation plots.

it was nice to go back to a time were Dragons are in the world and magic is a plenty and just a hint of a familiar name makes what to turn the next page.

that said the story is not bad not on the same par as the Chronicle or legend series but then I don't thing any thing will be Kirsten does a reasonable job even if some mis pronounced names grind a little

But all in all and enjoyable return to Krynn..

Flawed But Interesting Revisitation

Though this novel touches on some of the famed themes of Dragonlance such as time travel, epic war, and the support and tribulations of friends and family, the central character takes the main stage throughout much of the book, to the novel's detriment. This generic character, who becomes more and more dislikeable as the story continues, left me cold and a bit frustrated at times. The book hits its high notes when focusing on some of the familiar characters from previous novels, particularly the scenes with Tika and Caramon. The narrator is fine but has a very limited set of voices and in my opinion really fails to set Tas aside from some of the other characters in pitch and tone.

Leave your nostalgia at the door

As a reader of the original trilogy back in the 80's and a lover of the subsequent Twins trilogy, I've not read/ listened to any of the subsequent novels from the time of Tales of Krynn. I thought this may be a good time to get back into some light reading and a bit of nostalgia. I wish I hadn't however as the protagonist becomes progressively more selfish and whiney as the story progresses, and my favourite character, Tasslehof, is now an imbecile who can't grasp simple concepts; not at all like how I remembered him. This has tarnished my rosr tinted memory of the originals so dont say you've not been warned.
