About this listen
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Boy Who Followed His Father into Auschwitz by Jeremy Dronfield, read by John Sackville.
In 1939, Gustav Kleinmann, a Jewish upholsterer in Vienna, was seized by the Nazis. Along with his teenage son, Fritz, he was sent to Buchenwald in Germany. There began an unimaginable ordeal that saw the pair beaten, starved and forced to build the very concentration camp they were held in.
When Gustav was set to be transferred to Auschwitz, a certain death sentence, Fritz refused to leave his side. Throughout the horrors they witnessed and the suffering they endured, there was one constant that kept them alive: the love between father and son.
Based on Gustav's secret diary and meticulous archive research, this book tells his and Fritz's story for the first time - a story of courage and survival unparalleled in the history of the Holocaust.

A part of history NEVER to be forgotten
This book is probably the most easy listen to terrible atrocities - and a part of history that cannot be dismissed because it “never” happened. A MUST read.

My First Audiobook
My first audiobook, a heart wrenching account that allows your mind to imagine the awful experiences of these poor people. A very important contribution to keeping this awful memory alive for future generations to ensure it never happens again.

Fantastic story
I moved onto this book having listened to the tattooist of auschwitz, and like that this proves to be a remarkable story that stopped me on many occasions whilst I listened during my working day.
Would highly recommend to anyone.

harrowing story but a must read
an absolutely heart breaking personal story of the fall of Vienna to the Nazis and the persecution of it's Jewish people and the wider story of the persecution of thousands of people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs. it's also a great personal story of the ability of love to overcome hate and the strength of family and friendships. A fabulous book
