About this listen

The complete first series of Tweet of the Day, with introductions by Sir David Attenborough, Chris Packham, Kate Humble and many others.

First heard every weekday morning at 5.58am on BBC Radio 4, Tweet of the Day captured the imagination of early risers and bird lovers, proving so popular that it was named Radio Programme of the Year 2014. Each episode begins with a bird call or song, followed by fascinating ornithological detail about its owner.

This collection contains every edition from the first series, British Birds. The songs of over 260 birds can be heard over the course of a year, from the Cuckoo's call in spring to the summer seaside sound of the Herring Gull, the autumn song of the Robin and the Song Thrush's voice of hope in the depths of winter.

Featuring a mix of native birds, such asthe Blackbird and Tawny Owl, and migrant visitors including the Icterine Warbler and Ortolan Bunting, the series provides memorable insight into their behaviour and habits, explains their literary or folkloric associations, and tells stories of scientific or conservation success.

Presented by wildlife experts including Miranda Krestovnikoff, Steve Backshall, Michaela Strachan, Brett Westwood, Chris Watson, Martin Hughes-Games, John Aitchison and Bill Oddie, Tweet of the Day is a treat for the ears.

Brilliant!

Such a fascinating insight to birds and beautifully interspersed with their songs and calls. Passionately narrated by a selection of people who clearly love, appreciate and understand their subject matter. So glad I discovered this - it's a real tweet! 😄

loved every note, human and avian

Bird song is my favourite sound in the universe. Also loved hearing all those familiar human voices that have accompanied my journey through a lifetime's love of the natural world. Lots of fascinating facts too. This is one I shall revisit regularly.

No track listing.

No track listing which renders the book unusable as a learning resource and you soon become tired of listening to the tweets in a linear manner. Please update.

better than twitter any time

There’s an interesting exercise you can do with this programme, one can’t really call it a book after all, and that is to see how many birds you can name just by hearing the tweet before the name of the bird is annnounced. I think my favourites were the divers and warblers though there are some very complicated birdsongs in this collection. it’s just a nice relaxing book to listen to and there’s not much more to say about it. I liked it.

Calming

I would highly recommend this book if you want some peace and tranquillity in your day together with a little education about the birds on our shores.

265 Chapters. No Index

265 Chapters. No Index.

So you hear a bird singing and you want to identify it. How would you start? It would be simple to create an index, but they can't be bothered. Shoddy. A Rip-Off.
