Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of You, Your Child and School by Sir Ken Robinson and Lou Aronica, read by Sir Ken Robinson.

Parents everywhere are deeply concerned about the education of their children, especially now, when education has become a minefield of politics and controversy. One of the world's most influential educators, Robinson has had countless conversations with parents about the dilemmas they face. As a parent, what should you look for in your children's education? How can you tell if their school is right for them and what can you do if it isn't? In this important new book, he offers clear principles and practical advice on how to support your child through the education system, or outside it if you choose to homeschool or un-school. Dispelling many myths and tackling critical schooling options and controversies, You, Your Child, and School is a key book for parents to learn about the kind of education their children really need and what they can do to make sure they get it.

A must for any parent questioning the best path for their child’s education

The book starts off a little focused on the US school system, and I found the first chapter a little hard to stay with but I am so glad I did. This book addresses so many topics. Bullying, alternative schools, learning disorders, integration into your child’s learning, what you can expect from teachers, schools, the child and how to help tour child find and build on their element/passion to help ensure a fulfilling life.

I can’t recommenced this enough.

Overall, fabulous if a little US-centric.

A very good overview of ‘school’, well researched and produced - as one has come to expect from the wonderful Sir Ken Robinson.

Some parts could have been written for me, some less so and it is very US-centric - which would lose marks if Sir Ken’s voice (sound and opinion) were not so inspired and inspiring.

Had higher expectations for the author

As a father of two toddler boys, I was seeking to broaden my perspective on how our family should approach the upcoming formal education period for our children. This book provided some ideas and aspects to consider, however I didn't have any "aha!" moments. In one sentence, my takeaway is to consider all options, all paths for children's education and foster the environment for their talents to evolve.
