Yanis Varoufakis
About this listen
In Adults in the Room, Yanis Varoufakis exposes the shocking reality of how power is wielded behind the scenes at the EU - and argues that only radical reform can save it from collapse.
Yanis Varoufakis became globally famous when was elected finance minister of Greece with a specific mandate to say no to the EU: to reject the forced loans and crushing austerity forced upon his country by the Eurozone.
The negotiations that ensued became one of the most spectacular and controversial battles in economic history. But no one actually knows what went on because Eurogroup discussions are held in secret. In this no-holds-barred account, Varoufakis reveals all: an extraordinary tale of brinkmanship and backstabbing that will shake the economic establishment to its foundations.
The future of the EU now hangs in the balance. As Varoufakis argues, the only way it can survive is if the truth is known, ushering in a new era of radical transparency and accountability in Brussels. Adults in the Room is an urgent wake-up call to renew European democracy before it is too late.

A testimony for the future generations
Greece drama is a tough lesson for other countries which are promoting popular measures in the detriment of the fiscal discipline, leaving the nations in the hands of international organizations which have a very large track of massive failures of their programme

Sobering but essential listening
Like his other books, Yanis Varoufakis give a clear, detailed account of his dealings with the EU IMF and central banks during his time as Greek finance minister. The unfolding account of how they approached negotiations, and their disdain for democracy, is at times both chilling and farcical. This is an important and compelling book which should be widely read/heard. It is well narrated, which could have been improved only had the author himself narrated it.

Insightful
A very insightful look into the proceedings in Greece. I have had a career in fund management, but feel that macroeconomic and econometric detail, which could be quite technical to the layman, was explained in an accessible way. Lovely stuff.

Political Memoir at its Finest
This memoir is as gripping as a thriller, with the protagonists engaged in a tragic confrontation with their own inability to escape the quicksand. The performance is splendid - one of the finest I've heard. It's an outstanding audiobook.

Great listen
Absolutely loved this audiobook. Outlines in detail the smoke and mirrors game played by the Troika to get what they wanted. The parallels between what happened to Greece and what is now happening with the ongoing brexit negotiations is striking!

A rare opportunity for a glimpse
Usually we are left guessing and speculating about what happened and hoping that our analysis is close to reality. That mechanism, of obscuring the reality is of the most real threats progress is facing. we need to guess or speculate no more, now we know that the king Europe is naked. The structure of the arguments presented in this book leaves no doubts, this is the real deal.

Thought provoking.......
Engrossing from start to finish and more or less reaffirmed what I already thought about the EU.

Insightful, interesting, terrifying
In-depth insight into the inner workings and policies of the EU and their treatment and attitude towards member states.
Very interesting but also terrifying to see the direction this unelected body has been moving in and seemingly continues to do so regardless of other's wishes, desires or indeed sovereignty
