Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook edition of The Mayan Secrets by Clive Cussler and Thomas Perry, read by Scott Brick.

Husband and wife team Sam and Remi Fargo are in Mexico, when they come upon an astonishing discovery - the skeleton of a man clutching an ancient sealed pot, and within the pot, a Mayan book, larger than anyone has ever seen.

The book contains astonishing information about the Mayans, their cities, and about mankind itself. The secrets are so powerful that some would do anything to possess them - as the Fargos are about to find out.

Before their adventure is done, many people will die for that book - and Sam and Remi may just be among them....

A more hardcore adventure. Me likey.

This was more like it. The previous Fargo outing (The Tombs) was a disappointment. But this adventure was most satisfying. A tighter and easier to follow story. Lots and lots of great action. The violence level has gone up, approaching hard core thriller levels. The book is all the better for it.

Mind you, the Fargo's still have a tendency to putting themselves in harms way, by painting a bullseye on their own backs for the baddies to use. Still, not too annoying in this book, much due to the better story. This was a most satisfying listen.

Scott Brick - Great narration as always.

Really enjoying this series 👍

Yes, the story lines are far fetched and at times just daft, but I actually like that. They are entertaining and basically a good old fashioned adventure story. If that’s what you are after, then this series is a good choice.

Cussler - The Mayan Secrets

Any additional comments?

In line with much of the Fargo series, this story is very enjoyable. This time the story is centred on a historical document hidden by the Mayans, which would spell disaster should it fall into the wrong hands. Once again their adventures take the Fargo's across the world in search of the answers they seek.
Plenty of action and adventure interlaced with historical mystery and suspense. If you're a fan of the Indiana Jones type genre (albeit with a little more of a puzzle to solve), then you'll enjoy this..

Ok nothing more

Mediocre story, poor portrayal of bad guy. Enjoyable to begin with but felt it lost direction in the second half.

One of the best Fargo adventures.

This is one of my favourite Fargo adventures, along with ”The Tombs”. Good varied action and nasty baddies. A dozen couples like Sam and Remi would solve all the worlds problems.

Somehow a Misstep

Usually I adore Clive Cussler tales, but this somehow missed the mark for me. The story was erratic and fragmented and even at the end felt like it hadn’t been tied up properly. The last chapters felt rushed and not properly realised.
