About this listen
Lockwood & Co. might be the smallest (some might say shambolic) Psychic Detection Agency in London. But its three agents - Lockwood, Lucy and George - are exceptional talents. And they get results. When an outbreak of ghostly phenomena grows to terrifying levels in Chelsea, Scotland Yard is left baffled. Even more baffling is that Lockwood & Co appear to have been excluded from the huge team of agents investigating the Chelsea Outbreak.
Surely this is the perfect chance for them to show once and for all that they're actually the best in town? Well, that's if they can put aside their personal differences for long enough to march into action with their rapiers, salt and iron....
Ghouls and spectres, thrills and tension in this brand-new instalment in Jonathan Stroud's best-selling series.

Great reading, good book, but not the strongest in the series
The pacing of the narrative felt off, and the story was at times frustratingly predictable. Still really good though, and having a northern narrator really works well.

Great But...........
Where does Lockwood & Co: The Hollow Boy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Almost as good as the Bartimaeus Trilogy almost.
Any additional comments?
Really liked this story. my only thought was that George Cubbins and Lockwood didn't have the same voice acting as previous books. I don't know maybe its me.

Emily becan was perfect! She sounds exactly like Lucy Carlyle from the Netflix show! Story was increadible (like all the others in the series) left us on a massive cliff hanger 😱. Stroud IS a guinius!

Unstoppable
I loved the pace of the story. I loved each character and the thrill of discovery in every chapter. I haven’t listened for so long a time to one story in over 10 years, I couldn’t put audible down, I listened in the car, on my walk, secretly at work and in bed pretending I’d listened to it and it would eventually send me to sleep. Nope stayed up to 4 in the morning. It’s an excellent story.

One of the best. We love the whole Lockwood series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Skull. The narrator gives it a great voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending - wasn't expecting that and it was a good twist.
Any additional comments?

Things that go bump in the night
If you could sum up Lockwood & Co: The Hollow Boy in three words, what would they be?
Absolute pure delight
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lucy has always been my favourite character but only because of the Skull. The Skull probably ranks a bit higher than Lucy but only because of it's personality.
What about Emily Bevan’s performance did you like?
Having listened to both Miranda Raison and Katie Lyons read the first two books, I was delighted to find the book read by Emily Bevan. I adore her accent, she can switch well between characters (even when they're from London and she has to sound like the BBC) and, as Lucy comes from the North of England near the Cheviot Hills, she's 100% perfect for this book.
Emily Bevan puts life into this book, you really feel as if you're participating.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
"If you leave him now, he will die"
Any additional comments?
I feel that Audible have made a major mistake classifying these books. They appear in various categories but usually as suitable for 8 - 10 year olds. Now if you supply the kids with a dictionary, they'll understand parts of the book but how many are precocious enough to understand "surreptitious"?
Granted I am 50+ years old but I thoroughly enjoy these books and the idea behind them. Full marks to the author and to Random House for finally giving the books the narrator they deserved.

Lucy needs to get better at having female friends.
Actually really enjoyed the narration, despite being used to a very different reader for the previous two books. One thing I disliked about those last two performances was that the narrator barely attempted a proper northern accent for Lucy so I'm very happy it was done here. I've read complaints about it in the reviews, but the character's northern. For the first time she sounds how she should. Will say the only new voice I didn't like was George's. I can imagine his 'death' in the previous book would not have been anywhere near as moving had he been given this congested nasely voice back then. Lockwood himself didn't need to sound so husky either but I didn't mind that nearly as much. At least each voice is distinctive to one another. You know exactly who's talking at one time with little room for confusion. Narration is great in my opinion. You just need to reset your expectations if you've just come off the first two books.
Plotwise, I enjoyed it too. Nice spooky imagery, as always, and I'm liking Lucy taking more interest in ghosts as people, rather than simple dangerous entities. But for God's sake, she needs female friends. It seems she has immediate beef with any girl character close to her age and it's spewing a very noxious 'not like other girls' energy. Just because a girl likes to make herself look good does not make them the spawn of Satan. I hope this improves over the books. Luckily the end of this one does give me hope of that.
I'd recommend this one. It's definitely feeding into more of an overarching mystery this time round, rather than a standalone, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Thrilling and intriguing
I loved how we follow Lucy and ud ourselves get ducked into her world and worries. Also the whole sequence of Lucy in the hole, was so thrilling and you get very invested in the story.

Great story worst narrator ever.
The story is great as always but the Narrator is terrible. Her voices are weird and utterly different to the others which I could handle if they were anywhere near fitting for the characters. The slobbering sounds she occasionally makes is really off putting, as is the lisp.
