About this listen

Fatherland is set in an alternative world where Hitler has won the Second World War. It is April 1964 and one week before Hitler's 75th birthday. Xavier March, a detective of the Kriminalpolizei, is called out to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a lake near Berlin's most prestigious suburb.

As March discovers the identity of the body, he uncovers signs of a conspiracy that could go to the very top of the German Reich. And, with the Gestapo just one step behind, March, together with an American journalist, is caught up in a race to discover and reveal the truth - a truth that has already killed, a truth that could topple governments, a truth that will change history

Brilliant in every way

This book is thrilling and exciting and had me gripped to the very end. Download this book, you’ll not regret it.

Michael Jayston’s narration adds so much to it as well. I’d listen to it all over again straight away, in fact I think I might.

Gripping story

Robert Harris has managed to write a compelling and scary alternative future where Germany didn’t lose the war. The narrator gave a good performance that helped keep me hooked.

The book does remind me a little of 1984 in how the alternative world works.

Engrossing

Robert Harris never disappoints! In Fatherland, he creates a horrifyingly dystopian view of the post-WWII world order predicated on a German victory. Gripping stuff! Really enjoyed it. Constructing it as a murder mystery around the character of detective Xavier March was actually very clever (and not at all what I was expecting). I like a story that surprises me, and this one did just that.

Buried Secrets

This is 1960’s Nazi Germany, and Hitler has won the second world war. In this alternative society everyone is under surveillance, and no one beyond suspicion. Xavier March is called to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a lake near Berlin. As the truth of the old man’s death unravels, and the bodies begin to pile up, there appears to be a terrifying secret that the authorities want buried at all costs.

Not only is this a great plot, but Michael Jayston’s voice is superb!

excellent

Came to pick this up after watching the HBO series on YouTube , the book storyline is much more detailed and not as condensed. The author has done an amazing job at presenting a what could have been scenario. At its core the book is a very good detective story set in an alternate reality and an excellent read.

Great presentation of the classic

Great acting and presentation of this classic alternative history. Gripped throughout the story as to what would happen next and investment in the main character.
