Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
NOW THE NO.1 DRAMA IN THE HISTORY OF AppleTV+, SILO.
In a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo.
Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies.
To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism.
Their punishment is simple and deadly. They are allowed outside.
Jules is one of these people. She may well be the last.

Great story, awful narrator. Her monotonous voice was sending me to sleep. Save yourself the trouble, give this a miss and read the book.

Fantastic - a real dystopia you can get behind.
“It turned out that some crooked things looked even worse when straightened. Some tangled knots only made sense once unraveled.”
Wool presents a world that is scary in its familiarity. The situation is so alien, but the characters are so alive. In far-future worlds it can be difficult to empathise with the characters but Hugh Howey's are so human. There are parts that are absolutely terrifying and I was completely submerged in his world. The plot twists and turns, the characters grow, fight, give-up, fail, and succeed, and you fear for them as they do. I felt like I was a part of the silo.
Like We by Yevgeny Zamyatin this is a dystopia where the majority of souls exist in an [illusion of?] happiness. The enemy is always human, and best intentions can create the worst of the horrors. The reader is pleasant to listen to and the pacing of both the audio and the novel is excellent.
I think the author has a wonderful understanding of what makes us tick and uses his understanding to both bring hope and crushing devastation. And I will always have a place in my heart for Juilette and Lukas.

I wanted more
Great story, very well written and narrated. It was a bit different from my usual books but very glad I chose it. My only problem was the ending - the last chapter left a lot unanswered - just hoping that this is because there's a second book!?

Best post-apocalyptic series I've ever read
I've read the books before. Once on paper, once on kindle. It was amazing to hear it read by such an excellent narrator. I can't seem to stop thinking about this series, ever since a friend recommended it to me nearly five years ago. Howey's writing style is superb. I'd recommend this series to anyone.

Simply brilliant
I enjoyed the story so much - claustrophobic in terms of contemplating life in a silo and in that it doesn't give too much away and leaves you wanting to see the bigger picture. I had so many questions that I hope will be answered over the course of the trilogy. The writing is similarly spare - not a wasted word and not in the least bogged down by description, but at the same time conjures an incredibly vivid picture. I had two reservations, one was that I think the book had been altered for a British audience - it's obviously set in America, so why bother? The other was that, although the narration was overall very good, it was a bit flat and monotone and at times I just craved a bit of expression here and there.

Started with Wool
And then I just had to download the others. It's a great series, the momentum and pace are kept up well throughout.

Absolutely enthralling
This saved my sanity on a very long train journey to the north east and back. One of the most atmospheric audio books I've listened to, perfectly paced and characters I really cared about. I will certainly be buying the next installment!

Something totally different.
This book was one of those that leaves you thinking about the people and even worrying about them when you have to stop listening. Really great. Hope there are more to come.
