About this listen

An astonishing discovery is made in the remote African republic of Zangaro, one which could change the course of a nation's history forever. But such a discovery cannot be kept secret for long and Sir James Manson will stop at nothing to protect this find. A ruthless and bloody-minded tycoon, Manson immediately hires an army of mercenaries and with this deadly crew behind him he sets out to topple the government and replace its dictator with a puppet president. But news of the discovery has reached Russia – and suddenly Manson finds he no longer makes the rules in this power game. A game in which win or lose means life or death.

The Dogs of War

Its an old story, but the message about the self serving power which extreme wealth can bring remains as meaningful today as when it was written.

Another great tale from Mr Forsyth

Gripping, as are all FF’s novels, but a tad more gory than most, this book tells a tale of greed, deception, murder, and mercenaries sent to replace a corrupt African government with another corrupt but more manageable African government.

The reader switches from thev’scare the neighbours’ loud to the ‘What did he say’ inaudible whisper. But he deginitely gives his reading-skill all, throughout.

fascinating

I read this some years ago whilst serving in the UK armed forces and it served as an introduction in to a world I got know well. These days the term Mercenary is rarely used as we prefer Civilian Contractor. The political landscape may gave changed and the money involved has risen 100-fold, much has stayed the same. No matter when you live, this is a work of art.

Mr Forsyth at his best and I would recommend it to anyone.
Can we have an unabridged recording of the Day of the Jackal please! Pretty please?????

A Forsyth Masterpiece

David Rintoul, really does justice to Forsyth's books, the book is very strong in detail (which I like) as it helps you understand the whole story.
The ending was totally unexpected, which was so good as many books are truly so predictable. A thumping good book.

Blood Guts & a Killer Plot. what more do you need?

A methodical Exposé on Coup d'etat combined with a bloody good thriller. Another Frederick Forsythe classic
