About this listen
To the thousands of tiny nomes who live under the floorboards of a large department store, there is no outside. Things like day and night, sun and rain are just daft old legends.
Then a devastating piece of news shatters their existence: the Store, their whole world, is to be demolished. It's up to Masklin, one of the last nomes to come into the Store, to mastermind an unbelievable escape plan that will take all the nomes into the dangers of the great Outside.
This is the first book in the Bromeliad Trilogy.

Hilarious
Truckers is one of the very first audio books I remember listening to. We listened to it in the car when I was 7/8 years old on a family holiday. Despite listening to it a very long time ago I remember really enjoying the story about gnomes that lived in a store and had to drive a truck to escape before it was demolished.
There is always a danger when you revisit a childhood favorite that it won't be as good and your memories of the book will be forever altered.
That is not the case with Truckers. It was just as enjoyable and witty as when I was a child (perhaps because my sense of humor can be quite childish). Terry Pratchett is known for his comedy, and there was not a dull bit of the book. He creates a world with gnomes who believe humans are very dumb and you get to see a lot of human behavior through the eyes of a person only 4 inches tall. Which is very funny. The best part of the whole book is the final section, with the daring escape attempt.
Truckers is a lighthearted book that can be enjoyed by any age, and anyone with a silly sense of humor will love it.

Excellent performance, excellent book
Would you listen to Truckers again? Why?
The story is excellent, as always for Pratchett, but the performance meets his standard and delivers a fun and animated rendition of the story.
What other book might you compare Truckers to, and why?
I am really unsure how to answer that question. It's an adventure story, so like lots of kids books. It features little people living out of sight in the human world, so maybe the Borrowers, except really not. It's Pratchett, so the style you see in his other works comes through as well.
What about Stephen Briggs’s performance did you like?
Excellent, consistent and clear character voicing. Animated delivery, full of character and interest.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh. A lot.

Always loved this book - in both versions
Would you listen to Truckers again? Why?
Yes. I love the characters. They don't have to be human to feel empathy with them. The frustration with other beings of the same race that comes through the nomes thoughts and comments is clearly not species constrained in Pratchett's world. Very well read by Stephen Briggs as well. Difficult that with a book that people either love or loathe and have probably read themselves more than once
Have you listened to any of Stephen Briggs’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Yes - Superb as ever
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did :) I don't usually buy shorter listen audio books but knowing this story, I decided I'd spend a credit on it anyway. Now I don't have enough listens for the month :D
Any additional comments?
It would be fairer if the three books in this trilogy were banded together as one audiobook given the length. It is annoying to have to spend 3 credits on such short books and they're far too expensive to purchase outside the credits system

Made me smile from start to finish
Would you consider the audio edition of Truckers to be better than the print version?
When I was 10 my Mum started reading me this book and I’m not sure it would be too dramatic to say it changed my life. As someone who loved stories but really struggled to read these stories captured my imagination and my sense of humour enough to force me into reading. Now 16 years on, I downloaded them and was pleasantly surprised to find that I still loved them. Compelling and exciting, insightful and witty this is everything you could want from a book aimed at children, but whose appeal continues into adulthood. I can't imagine how anyone would dislike it!

Hilarious and at the same time insightful
Every child should be introduced to this book. While it is funny and wholly engaging it is also a fantastic way to begin discussing religion with your child, if you want to. It is also a good introduction to the works of Sir Terry Prattchet and no child, or adult should miss out on his work.

Great intro to Pratchett
Amazing start to reading Pratxhett novels for children. Thoroughpy recommended for adults too! Slightly different sense of humour to the Discworld series but given the target audience this isn't surprising.
