Summary

The elegant, intelligent amateur sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey is one of detective literature’s most popular creations. Ian Carmichael is the personification of Dorothy L. Sayers’ charming investigator in this BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation.

When mystery writer Harriet Vane is accused of the murder of her lover, the evidence seems pretty damning. But Lord Peter Wimsey is not convinced and when, five hours later, no verdict has been returned, it seems the jury may not be either. But if Harriet didn't murder Philip Boyes, who did?

Well Read

The dramatised version is not as good as the book but it was very enjoyable to listen to with excellent narration.

Classic

This was an unusual slant and surprisingly modern concepts for a pre war mystery- women's lib politics class distinction etc are all covered in this old fashioned but entertaining classic whodunnit

Dorothy L Sayers at her best

Would you consider the audio edition of Strong Poison (Dramatised) to be better than the print version?

I have read this book as well and the spoken version really brings it to life.

What other book might you compare Strong Poison (Dramatised) to, and why?

If you have read or listened to any of Peter Wimsey books who also features Harriet Vane, to compare it to. There is always lots of mystery.

What does Ian Carmichael bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He brings the character of Lord Peter Wimsey to life.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The interaction of some of the characters can make you laugh.

Any additional comments?

A very good listen.

Strong Poison

Place the needle in the grove and let the slight hiss from the record take you back 8 decades. Get out the tea pot, settle down and enjoy poor Lord Peter head over heels in love- with the accused! Vintage BBC drama and a classic detective story. The first in the Hariet Vain sequence, followed by 'Have his Carcas'.

Wimsey at his finest!

Ian Carmichael IS Lord Peter Wimsey in this excellent dramatization. Although following his heart and Miss Harriet Vane, this is still a cracking murder tale from the very British 20/30's
