About this listen
Charles Henstock, vicar of Thrush Green, is living in his new vicarage after the old one burned down. In its place are eight retirement homes, but there’s heated debate in the village about the new residents. How to choose who will live there? How will they get on together? And how will they accommodate all the pets?
Meanwhile the old residents have their worries. At the school Miss Watson learns that her brother has had an accident; an argument flares up between Edward Young and Dr Lovell; and Dottie Harmer becomes dottier by the day.

I might be addicted to the Thrush Green novels.
"At Home in Thrush Green" is another enchanting and soothing story by Miss Read, truly flawlessly narrated by Gwen Watford. I just wonder what I am to do once I finish the series! I suppose I will start listening/reading from the beginning again. I just can't get enough of Miss Read's beautiful writing and the world of Thrush Green in particular!

the history detail and definitely Gwen Watford s voice and tone.. wonderful to listen to.
There is nothing to dislike or take umbrage with , therefore, a pleasure to listen to, especially doing housework and even getting off to sleep.

Beautiful book, like a hug in book form
I utterly adore Miss Read’s books, and will be sorely upset when I’ve worked my way through them all. They’re gentle yet entertaining and witty. I’ve never listened to anything like it, now I never want to listen to anything else!
I do find it amusing that some of the school children are like Peter Pan. George Curdle must be quite old by now but he’s still in the infants class. In her Village School books Joe and others must be in their mid 40s but still at primary school!

Wonderful as ever
Miss Read captures a simple country life that creates a marvellous escapism. A realm of lovable characters, whose lives we follow from book to book. Gwen Watford narrates beautifully and is a joy to listen to.

Most enjoyable.
Having had the Thrush Green titles on cassette many years ago, I decided to take the opportunity to listen to them again.
Miss Read doesn't disappoint, the story of the everyday going's on of Cotswold country folk, beautifully narrated by the late Gwen Watford. I love the way the author has made the characters so interesting. Very gentle reading at it 's best.
