About this listen
If a megalomaniacal earth mage kidnaps your little sister, do you:
A) Kill him
B) Kill him
C) Kill him
D) Magically indenture yourself to him to ensure her safe return
Welsh water horse Nevan Quirke would have happily opted for A, B, or C but had no idea where his sister was hidden—so, option D it is. He’s not a fool, though. He made sure to limit his obligation to a single task.
Unfortunately, he neglected to nail down a few tiny details before the geas brand was seared into his skin, and now:
A) He can’t shift
B) He can’t swim
C) He can’t drink
D) If he fails, he’ll be bound to the mage for eternity
Oh, and that task? Assist in an assassination.
If only he weren’t so thirsty.
And if only his partner for the heinous job weren’t the most appealing man Nevan has seen in his entire thousand-year life.
Assassin by Accident takes place in E.J. Russell’s Mythmatched universe and is part of the multiauthor Carnival of Mysteries series. Each book stands alone, but each one includes at least one visit to Errante Ame’s Carnival of Mysteries, a magical multiverse traveling show full of unusual acts, games, and rides. The Carnival changes to suit the world it’s on, so each visit is unique and special. This book features grumpy sunshiny, hurt comfort, mistaken identity, opposites attract, unexpected derring-do, and of course an HEA—no matter how little the men in question think they deserve it.

I loved it so much!
Nevan is a Welsh water horse shifter. When an evil earth mage kidnaps his six year old sister he makes a deal with the mage in order to get her back. But the price is too high.
Seb is a nanny and when he gets mistaken for an assassin by Nevan his life's biggest adventure begins. He enters a magical world, he finds love and he discovers himself.
I absolutely adored the chemistry between Nevan and Seb. Nevan was so incredibly kind but lonely, always seeing as a monster, and Seb was so caring and loving and helped him realize how wonderful he really is. They warmed my heart.
The book was full of adventure, action and surprises. I loved the pacing.
The narrator was amazing. He did a fantastic job bringing the story and the characters to life. I felt like I was watching a movie and I loved all the different accents.
I higly reccomend this audiobook.

Perfect mix of story and performer
Have been working my way through some of the Carnival of Mysteries books and to get this one where that world has been combined with Russell's Mythmatched universe was great. Nevan's agreement with the mage turns out to have truly horrific conditions attached but when he mistakes Seb for his assassin partner we get to see them use brains and every trick in the book to outwit the mage, avoid becoming assassins and as things progress, find a way to be together forever. A wonderful story of two totally mismatched characters that work perfectly together. Greg Boudreaux was perfect for this story as he's a master at getting the humor, hard times and romance in a story.

awesome like always
I'm a big E.J. Russell fan and this book did not disappoint. even though this book is part of the multi author Carnival of mysteries series, this very much felt like a book in the mythmatched universe. I felt like you would definitely appreciate this book more when you're familiar with the rest of the world. I think it won't be too confusing if you haven't read them, but it'll be a plus.
I loved the two mc's, the humour, and just the whole story. if you like paranormal, shifters, and a lot of fun, this book / author is well worth a read / listen.

MM Fun/comical Paranormal
MM Fun/comical Paranormal
Back to the world I love from EJ Russell, the world of shifter/paranormal and Quest Investigations.
The main two characters, Seb and Nevan, are well written, along with the story, but their relationship is full of chemistry.
It kept me amused throughout, as most of their books do. I love how there is always a fun/comical aspect to their writing.
The narration was on point, and Greg Boudreaux does enough voices that you always know which character is talking. I increased the speed, which is typical for me. I recommend the audio version all day long.

Loved it
I absolutely loved Seb and Nevan.
This was a quirky comedy of errors and hijinks.
There was lots of fast paced action, danger and drama as they try to rescue Nevan's sister from an evil mage.
Seb turned out to be a hero in disguise.
Greg did an amazing job portraying the different characters and bringing them to life.

First class supernatural detective story.
Another lighthearted detective story, with some serious danger and excitement. Ms Russell's Quest Investigation books are so entertaining. These stories are comfortably addictive and I love how the characters from previous series' become friends, and all work together to solve the craziest of mysteries. Assassin by Accident is part of the new Carnival of Mysteries series, it's an entertaining read, about a nanny and a water horse shifter. The story flows beautifully, Seb and Nevan, searching for Nevan's younger sister working together effortlessly, while the attraction between them grows quietly but rapidly. It was so sweet how Seb looked after Nevan, especially since he was half his size. When Jordan, from Howling On Hold appeared, I very nearly cheered. He is one of my favourite fictional characters. He's so lovely, sweet, kind and just a little clueless, I can't wait until he gets his own book. I enjoyed everything about this story, the setting, the mystery, the romance, the supernatural and last but not least the characters. I was utterly captivated and drawn into Seb and Nevans world, I absolutely loved the audible, Greg Boudroux is a genius narrator. The accents, nuances, and humour he brings to his work is amazing. He totally brought all of the characters to life. Will definitely listen to again.
I received an ARC of this audible book which in no way influenced my

Excellent narration for a great story
What an entertaining adventure romance from EJ Russell. I love that they have also incorporated their Quest Investigations series with some much loved characters.
Nevan is having the worst day, his little sister having been kidnapped and he's been sent on a quest by her evil mage kidnapper to meet with an assassin and then help them. Unfortunately, he meets Seb who seems like the unlikeliest of assassins with his happy and innocent ways. Much confusion, upset, determination and falling in love follows as the two men follow clues and instructions to save Nevan's sister and himself.
Nevan and Seb together, even with their initial misunderstanding, make for a wonderful couple to read. Nevan has so much going on but cannot help but notice Sebs' attractiveness, kindness and fierceness when it comes to helping Nevan with his tasks and keeping him alive. Seb is instantly attracted to the larger, grumpy man and when everything is unintentionally revealed, cannot believe the world that exists beyond what he is aware, though he goes with it extremely well. Just taking everything as it comes. They go on quite the journey together, it has a strong hurt/comfort element as Seb helps Nevan through with what has happened but also his negative self confidence.
I am a big fan of EJ Russell's and love the community that they have created. It's always entertaining, getting to read their stories and shenanigans, and Jordan and Doop bring the adorable innocence and passion for their job. The author is a fantastic world builder and it's s easy to fall into the world that has been created and feel the emotions of the characters.
This is my first book of the Carnival of Mysteries series and I definitely need to go and read the others.
Greg is a brilliant narrator that I look forward to listening to and he provides such good voices for the characters. I'm absolutely in love with his accent for Nevan and he brings every part of the story to life.

Loved the story and I enjoyed the mentions of previous characters I’ve met in this author’s books.
The narrator (particularly for Nevan) was perfect.
