About this listen

A company of Space Rangers finds itself on the precipice of intergalactic war in a military SF novel perfect for fans of Starship Troopers and the Lost Fleet series.

Ben Dailey's Viper Company has one motto: Play hard and fight even harder. The crew is comprised of some of the most elite fighters in the Fleet, though occasionally overconfident and, some might say, obnoxious. So when Dailey is handed down a mysterious, high-security mission that's ostensibly a search-and-rescue for his once-upon-a-time academy rival turned brother in arms, he's convinced there's more to the job than meets the eye.

Soon, the USF Murphy is on its way to the edge of the Void—a mostly unexplored section of space on the outer reaches of the galaxy—to track down what happened to Capt. Rick Bearing and the Asher-5. But as Dailey and his crew discover more and more about the ruined ship they've been sent to investigate, they begin to realize there's something bad happening in the dark reaches of the system. Something alien. Something with potentially catastrophic implications for not just them but all of humanity . . .

Filled with heart-pounding battles, fast-paced wit, and unforgettable characters, and penned by an ex–armed forces leader, Asher's Fall is the explosive launch of a one-of-a-kind, high-octane military science-fiction series.

Good listen

Really enjoyed found the first 40 mins or so hard to get into and nearly stopped I was glad I perceived. Was an over all good listen. The voice actor with his accent nearly put me off but soon I didn’t even notice it.

Great narrator and a fun listen.

Very good typical sci-fi military story and ever so much enjoyable. The narrator does a very good job of portraying the different characters. It's not very often that a laugh out loud with a book but this was very much a case here. I had no problem pre-ordering the second novel that I started listening to before I finished what I was listening to when it became available.

The beginning of a great journey!

Story telling at its best! An immersive universe, uniquely structured plot and twists you don’t see coming! Looking forward to future instalments.

Kinda like Star Terk with Colonial Marines

Having already liked JSL’s previous series that are Urban Fantasy and Zombie Apocalypse based I’ve wandered into a genre that I don’t often go for.

This is a solid entry into a universe that is structured very much like Star Trek’s Federation the protagonists are more like colonial marines from Aliens or Halo. I think the strongest part of the story is the view of military life, something the author is knowledgeable about. The narrative of the story moves along at a good pace and while not ground breaking I have been thoroughly entertained by it.

a poor man's "expeditionary force"

this book wanted to be "ex-force" so much it might as well have named it's main character bishop.

same snarkey AI trope, but poorly done. zero understanding of how space works. from referring to astroieds as meteors to describing space combat like its a ww2 naval battle that just so happen to be in space. as for the jokes... no. also the narrator did not deliver them proparly, it took about 3 chapters to realize they were suppose to be funny
