About this listen

Ash Ridley just bonded to a baby phoenix - the most powerful beast in all of Cascadia - and he's hungry, hyperactive, high-maintenance, and hiccups fireballs.

Twelve-year-old Ash waves goodbye to her miserable life as a traveling circus stablehand when she and her feisty bird, Flynn, are whisked away to the Academy of Beasts and Magic: a school where wealthy children train unicorns, manticores, and scarf-wearing ice dragons. The downside to owning such a highly magical beast? Everyone wants him. When a mysterious sorcerer suggests the Academy may have dark intentions, Ash realizes her tiny bird might be the key to saving Cascadia...or destroying it.

Magical story

This story is wonderful from start to finish, page by page I was hooked. The audiobook is complete and unabridged so it's perfect for those younger readers who enjoy reading along. The world is very well crafted, populated with unique characters, Ash is a great protagonist for all readers and coupled with the comical mishaps brought on by Flynn the Phoenix sets a story in motion that both entertains and surprises the reader. I got this book and found I couldn't put it down. I have both novel and audiobook and I would recommend this to anyone who loves to read fantasy stories like The Last Unicorn or Harry Potter. If you want adventure, excitement and a few chuckles (thank you for the part which saw Dottie and Donnie discuss school uniforms with Professor Talon I laughed out loud at that).

I hope we will see sequel stories and this is the start of a new fantasy series.
