Plucky fourteen-year-old Adunni is in Lagos, excited to finally enrol in school. Having escaped her rural village in a desperate bid to seek a better future, she's found refuge with Tia, a kind and brilliant woman on her own troubled journey of self-discovery.

But it's not so simple to run away from your past.

On the night before she is due to join her new classmates for her first lesson, a terrible knocking at the front gate summons Adunni back to her home village, Ikati, where her dramatic story of resilience first began.

As Tia frantically tries to protect her from an uncertain fate, Adunni must try to save not only herself but all the young women of her village, and transform Ikati into a place where girls are allowed to claim the bright futures they deserve - and roar their stories to the world.

Wonderful intertwining storyline. Just couldn’t stop listening. Beautifully expressed. Captured the various cultures coexisting in Nigeria and especially the experience of women.

And boy did she roar!

I thought about Adunni often after I read this book. I dont think a protagonist has ever done that to me. And So I Roar was everything I hoped it would be and more. The narrator was fantastic. I believed in all of those characters. Miss Tia is a beautiful human and I'm glad her and Adunni found each other. Thank you for this book.

Moving and powerful Story

This story was incredibly deep, touching, and moving. It brought to life the experiences of girls and women from small villages in Africa, giving them a powerful voice. It highlighted their stories in a way that made you feel as if you were walking alongside Aduni, the main character. It left me eager to learn more, and I hope there will be a sequel to continue this journey.

Love but not quite as much as Louding Voice

I was so excited that this book was coming out as The Girl with the Lousing Voice was just immaculate. I love this still, and the reading is excellent... there was just something I didn't quite believe about a couple of the characters and this made them feel much more like they were a device to make a point or to head a campaign than a real character. I guess some of the narrative felt slightly rushed or manipulated to reach a specific point or to preach a particular message which the first book never did. As I say, I still loved this and recommend it if you want to know more about Aduni and Miss Tia.

From the characters, to the storyline, the beautifully written prose, and wonderful narration. I was enthralled. What a follow-up to the amazing book, And So I Roar. Highly recommend to listeners.

Such an important book

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer. This book is so moving and so important. I would advise you to read The Girl with the Louding Voice first so that you understand the context, and simply because it is also a wonderful book. The writing is so warm, accessible and funny, but at the same time heartbreaking and profound. I challenge anyone not to fall in love with the main character, Adunni, and not to learn something from what she has to say. Adjoa Andoh's narration brings the book to life too; the characters are voiced superbly.

You can Roar

Another outstanding book from Abi Dari. This book contains many important themes and lessons - not just the suppression of women but forced marriage, female genital mutilation and the important of education.

The narration was perfect.

Aduni is becoming a young woman, and on the night she is supposed to leave for her a schooling a terrible thing happens. I can't say more without giving it all away, but wow. We follow Aduni and Ms Tia on another breathtaking journey.

I have only one complaint, it finished. Dare we hope for one more installment of this magnificent series?! I certainly hope so.
