Summary

The number one bestseller and Sunday Times Humour Book of the Year by national treasure Bob Mortimer.
‘The most life-affirming, joyful read of the year’ - Sunday Times

‘Winningly heartfelt’ – The Guardian

‘A triumph’ – Daily Mail
Bob Mortimer’s life was trundling along happily until suddenly in 2015 he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate surgery and forced him to cancel an upcoming tour. The episode unnerved him, but forced him to reflect on his life so far. This is the framework for his hilarious and moving memoir, And Away…

Although his childhood in Middlesbrough was normal on the surface, it was tinged by the loss of his dad, and his own various misadventures (now infamous from his appearances on Would I Lie to You?), from burning down the family home to starting a short-lived punk band called Dog Dirt. As an adult, he trained as a solicitor and moved to London. Though he was doing pretty well (the South London Press once crowned him ‘The Cockroach King’ after a successful verdict), a chance encounter in a pub in the 1980s with a young comedian going by the name Vic Reeves set his life on a different track. And now, six years on, the heart condition that once threatened his career has instead led to new success on BBC2’s Gone Fishing.

Warm, profound, and irrepressibly funny, And Away… is Bob’s full life story (with a few lies thrown in for good measure.)

Bob is a truly beautiful and hilarious human being

From the very beginning, this audiobook displays Bob's true nature and how much of a genuine, kind and down to earth human being he truly is.

Filled with hilarious and at times touching anecdotes, this is well worth a listen.

Bob is a true legend of British comedy and television.

What a guy!

Listened to this fascinating, hilarious tale…. If Bob Mortimer isn’t a genuinely lovely talented person then he’s a better actor than he gives himself credit for. I look forward to forgetting the detail so I can listen to this again.

What a great guy Bob is! I enjoy everything he does. Although not an hilarious book it is open and honest with plenty of great tales and nuggets of gold

Simply brilliant

The best Audible credit that I’ve ever spent. Hilarious throughout, excellently performed by the man himself. Listen to this audiobook - you’ll be glad you did.

Bob is wonderful!

I love him even more now. He's my favourite comedian and one of my favourite humans. This book is a joy and his reading is as charming and funny as you'd expect.

A man who loves cats always gets top marks

Loved the structure - chuckled at legal stuff (never a dull moment as a lawyer, honest!) - never boring - really felt Bob had delivered an honest account of his life - and I will listen to it again.

Excellent listen

I had never known anything about Bob Mortimer until listening to this book and I really enjoyed it, I think he has showed us what life is really like. Take your chances/opportunity’s when they come along, give it a go and you might be surprised where it will take you.

Wonderful

An authentic, and love filled treat scattered with embarrassing (especially when on the train) laugh out loud moments of joy and silliness. Cheers Bob.
