Very enjoyable
I knew about Ancient Egypt but very little about the other kingdoms. This book helped resolve that and was an enjoyable listen.

all over the place
Some enteresting events, but very frustrating as more than often the words, not clear, some suggest, there's no clear evidence, legend says and so on. Never solid evidence, so they should add the word " Theory" in the main Title

Not quite enough.
I was hoping for more information. A short chapter on Mali is inadequate: same goes for the other chapters in the first part. And there is a lot of Africa from Ghana southwards! This book has shown me I should ignore potted histories and look further afield.

No mention of Songhai and only focussed on Kingdom of Kush. Retitle it to Kush kingdom

A white supremacist interpretation of African history
It was quite shocking to listen to this audiobook as I am well versed in African history and culture. The interpretation is mundane and spews the diatribe of European beliefs about African culture and history. The book attempts to position the ancient Egyptians as different from the ordinary Africans on the continent. He presented the development of ancient Egypt as mysterious and almost unexplainable to deny the African origins of Egypt.
The author did try to make some connection between the land of Punt and Egypt. It is well known that the ancient Egyptians saw no difference between themselves and the Africans of the continent whether they be from Somalia or Ethiopia or the Sudan. It is also clear in the hieroglyphs that whites were depicted as savages and barbarians. The fact that these historical data were ignored or the writer tried to skirt around them is evidence of the racist portrayal of African history.
