About this listen
John
I have served as a sailor in His Majesty’s Royal Navy for the past ten years and had no intention of changing that path. The death of my uncle means I must return to Blackthorne Estate to take up my position as Lord and Master. I’ll step up to do my duty. My dearest wish is that my beloved joins me. When he chooses to accompany me, I set my mind to making him mine—body and soul.
Philip
I have been a sailor for nearly thirty years and never planned to retire until my captain orders it. When my beloved is called to attend to his family’s estate, he asks me to accompany him as a valet. I’m happy to do so as it keeps me close to him. He wants to grow the affection between the two of us, but I feel the need to hold myself apart. In the end, though, I suspect he will win this argument.
An Uncommon Gentleman is an 8k Regency gay romance short story. The story was previously available in Austen Tea Party: A Historical Romance Collection for Charity Inspired by Jane Austen. This version has been expanded.

Fantastic narration!
I love historical novels and this novella is well written. We get an insight into John and Philip's lives, first at sea and now on land. We learn a bit more about John, but due to the brevity there wasn't much character development or storyline. I still enjoyed the book though. The two of them are pretty cute together.
As always, Michael did a fantastic job narrating and brought John and Philip very much to life. He read with variety and for Michael's voice alone I would have liked the audiobook to be longer!

Excellent narration
This short story is performed brilliantly, and what story we had was enjoyable. But it was far too short. It's an introduction to characters and the new situation they find themselves in. But just as things start to move to what would be seceral interesting story ideas, with acceptance (from staff, tenants, and other Lords), making John's nephew the heir, and the development of the couple's relationship, the epilogue happens.
Far too short to be completely satisfying.

A great short story!
I've enjoyed everything I've read by Gabbi Grey and Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favorite voice actors so I was delighted when I received a copy of this audiobook for review. The blurb describes the story better than I can. It's a very short audio, and with a story this short there just isn't time for much character development. That didn't matter because the slice of life we got to observe about John and Philip told a very complete story and I loved listening to it.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Experly narrated
The frowning man looking very severe on the front cover of Gabbi Grey's short romance should not put you off. It intrigued me and I very much enjoyed listening to his story.
A story, one could say, of rags to riches. It is also a story of finding a freedom. Not from captivity but a freedom to be yourself. It happens unexpectedly and at first neither John nor Philip are quite sure what to do with their new situation, after all in Regency England being gay was if not illegal then certainly kept very well hidden from prying eyes.
Michael Ferraiuolo narrates this story with great feeling and passion. He truly gives these characters voice, we can easily differentiate them but we can also feel what they feel, be with them through their ups and downs, doubts and certainties. He gives them life and voice, brings a new depth to the story that, if you have already read it in print should encourage you to also listen to it in audio. He is a fantastic narrator and perfectly suited this story.

Fantastic narration as always!
Short, sweet and a little scandalous.
This historical novelette is well written and well thought out with the characters surprisingly vivid with so few words.
A stolen moment in time with two men whose lives are changed in a way they never expected.
I will admit to wanting more, but a great trease of Gabbi's talents!!

Not my usual
I was given a code by the author and tried this short short.
The set up is interesring due to being a multicultural story set in a time I am not aware many such story is set. Especially the inheritance part in this Regency mm romance.I am also hugely suprised at the age gap between John and Philip and it stays unclear when they started up a relationship. I would have liked to know a bit more backstory especially about Philip and a bit more about John or a longer story after this one. It waa sweet that they jave waited years to be truely together.
It is as it says an end to an era and a start of a new one and it truely feels like that.
I find it hard to rate such a short so 4+ for the idea 4-/ 3,5 for what we have.
Narration was spot on by the narrator as I am almost expecting by now.

A sweet love worth the wait
Story = 3.5 stars
Narration = 5 stars
My only problem with this story is that it isn't really one, or even a short story. It has all the elements to be a great one. The main chatacters back story was interesting. Both of the MCs were loveable characters with great chemistry together. The story was sweet with no angst or drama and a little light steam. We are just missing the story itself. It just dropped off and to me the entire thing felt like a prologue to a story. I wanted to see how they got on in their new world.
The narration was wonderfully done. I could hear all the emotions in his voice (at least the few that were included in this very short story). He had a very pleasant voice to listen to. He kept a great pace/flow and really brought the words to life. His old English accent sounded right and he gave everyone their own unique voice that suited each of the characters well and made it very easy to follow the story. I'm glad I got to listen to this rather than just read it.

Short, sweet historical romance
I really enjoyed this short listen from Gabbi Grey. John and Philip have been discreet lovers while sailors in the Navy, but then John gets surprise news that significantly changes his station in society. Can their relationship continue, or could it become even more? This is a sweet age-gap, status-gap, mentor-mentee romance. I really liked John, who knew and pursued what he wanted, even when Philip (gently) resisted, and I liked his thinking a little outside the box to manage the change in his life and keep what was important to him.
The narration by Michael Ferraiuolo really captured the essence of these two MCs and the way they maintained their relationship in a time when MM love was risky. Very enjoyable voice and delivery.

Short and sweet
Two sailors that, due to unforeseen circumstances, have to navigate a life on land.
For a short story, we get to know John's backstory, fairly well; Phillip, not so much. But that does not take away from the overall story of 2 men devoted to each other in a time and place where it was illegal. They find a way, and we are left with the satisfaction that they will remain together.
Michael Ferraiuolo makes one wish the story were longer. He brings so much depth to any story he performs. (Why the 4 stars for performance, you ask? The pronunciation of lieutenant was US, not UK, so it jarred me a little).
Definitely an enjoyable listen.

short but good
Audiobook - really well narrated and the addition of bits of fitting music was a real highlight.
Story - enjoyable for the length. The times felt quite accurate although I don't know much about this period. Being a POC in that place at that time would have been really difficult, let alone only attracted to men, and then becoming Lord of an estate? Thankfully he had Philip with him. I would have liked the story to be longer, but it was well balanced and felt quite complete.
