About this listen
'Mandy, break right...’ Jacko’s urgent scream shatters my bubble of bliss like a balloon exploding. My right hand slams the stick across and we tip over sideways, like a hard right turn on a roller coaster. I tense my stomach muscles to accept the punch in the guts from the g-suit, which clamps my legs tight to force the blood to my brain and stop me from blacking out.
‘Missile launch, five o’clock...’ says the strained voice of my nav into my headset. I am not daydreaming anymore.
Flying a multi-million pound fighter jet in hostile territory is not an everyday career, and it comes with a high degree of pressure and responsibility. It’s a dream job that takes years of ambition, training and commitment, but for Mandy Hickson, it was a dream that became reality. Find out about Mandy’s incredible journey to become one of the UK’s first female, fast-jet pilots and how she overcame many obstacles to develop the skills to succeed in such a demanding career.

Fantastic
The Story or a female fighter pilot entering into the RAF had me gripped from the moment you heard Mandy’s voice.
It placed you into the heart of her story and her passion of telling you captivated you in to the hustle and bustle of what it’s like to be in a world that many can only dream of.
Her story personally and professionally was just a joy to listen to, narrated by Mandy herself, I don’t think this story would of been the same if not read by her.
Absolutely gripping read and at times your edged on to the seat waiting for the excitement and story to unfold more.
By far my best listen on Audible.

What an incredible story, and compelling read!
After listening to Mandy speak in a webinar, i couldn’t wait to download the book and immerse myself in more! I wasn’t disappointed. Downloaded the book and listened for 7hrs over the weekend, just had to keep going and now i want more!! Mandy’s story is compelling, inspiring and i would highly recommend putting this book on your wish list, ready to read next. Even better, if you get chance to listen to Mandy in person then cease that opportunity also.

Engaging and enjoyable
Mandy Hickson’s account of her life in the RAF is an inspiring addition to the canon. She arrives in the RAF just as one of the very first female fast jet pilots and overcomes all the many challenges to qualify and serve on the front line. An excellent listen for anyone with an interest in the reality of being a combat pilot.

Most inspiring book about a leader's journey
Over the years and particularly recently, I have spent a lot of time reading and listening to books about the psychology of success, about styles of leadership and approaches to training, mentoring and coaching. I have studied a lot in order to improve my approach to the coaching of my clients.
I have read books by the best in their field, New York Times bestseller lists and people who can charge hundreds of thousands of dollars for a day of their coaching to a company.
I've got much from many of those books and inputs but this particular book by Mandy Hickson has it all in one package.
This is by far the most engaging book I have heard and read for a long time, Mandy narrates her own story and she does it so well that I was completely captivated all the way through and I couldn't put it down.
I actually went from start to finish in one sitting. Seriously, I had listened to the opening of the book and decided that I needed to put aside the time and was not disappointed.
The honesty with which Mandy addresses early vulnerabilities, limiting beliefs internal and external limitations and how she overcame all of these to achieve the goals that she wanted to from a very early age and was surprised I think by how much she did actually achieve.
Of particular interest to me what is the institutional growth that had to take place along with that of Mandy and her peers.
If anybody wants to know how to overcome their own limiting beliefs and how to respond to the challenges in life that are outside of your control, of which there are many, you should start off by reading Mandy's story.
This inspired me, it made me laugh and at times put a lump in my throat. I could resonate with much of her story and the elements that I could not resonate with, she described in such brilliant detail that I could really understand and empathise.
Trials, tribulations, setbacks and significant success in spite of all the odds. Inspirational does not even start to describe the impact of this book.
Oh, and I don't write reviews of books. This is the first one I have ever written!

First Class
Amazing, inspirational, witty and honest. One of the best military audio books I've listened too and as a fellow Mancunian I chuckled at Mandys humour. A must listen!
