Summary
Marcus Braddock, Duke of Hampton and former general, is back from war and faced with mourning the death of his beloved sister, Elise. Marcus believes his sister's death wasn't an accident, and he's determined to learn the truth, starting with investigating Danielle, the beautiful daughter of a baron and his sister's best friend.
Danielle is keeping deadly secrets of her own. She has dedicated her life to a charity that helps abused women - the same charity Elise was working for the night she died. When Danielle's work puts her life in danger, Marcus comes to her rescue. But Danielle may not need rescuing...

EXCELLENT start to a new series
Right well I am incredibly pleased with this first book in the series... Anna Harrington has a very uncanny skill at pacing. This (like all her other writing) never felt rush and was very well developed. Other HR that I’ve read that dabble in the bleak underworld of Regency England never strike such a good balance between the mystery and the romance itself. This really was done extraordinarily well. The story was very well weaved, and very satisfying. Loved the last setup for the rest of the series and so looking forward to the next installments. Justine Eyre forever and always the only narrator that really delivers. She always imbues emotion in narration and dialogue and makes it feel like you are listening to a conversation. As all of Anna Harrington’s writing has a big incendiary emotional moment or two (all the Carlisle brothers’ stories made me weep at one point), JE is the only one that will do in my opinion. Can’t wait for the next one! Highly recommend.
