About this listen

The instant no. 1 Sunday Times bestseller

'It's an incredible read for anyone facing adversity in their life; how to cope with it, how to stay positive in really difficult situations. - Sally Nugent

'A throat-catching love letter to his wife and children . . . this lovely man has reframed a universally sad story into a life-enhancing one. The overall message is one of hope. ' - The Times

'It's just stunning; funny and beautifully written' - as heard on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show

Sir Chris Hoy knows better than most how life can change in the blink of an eye.

In elite sport, the margin between victory and defeat is miniscule, and the pressure is immense. Chris has built a glittering sporting career on understanding these moments: how to feel for them, how to cope with them, how to make them count.

Last year, he faced another life-changing moment. He found out that the ache in his shoulder was in fact a tumour, and that he had Stage 4 cancer.

He will be living with this disease for the rest of his life.

In this memoir, Chris shares the next phase of his extraordinary life with exceptional bravery. He looks over the challenges he has faced thus far, and the ways he has taken them on. With his wife Sarra and their young children by his side, he shares how he has used these experiences to find ways to focus on the moments that matter, showing us how to do the same.

Chris Hoy, the man, the myth, the legend!

I always liked Chris Hoy and was shocked to hear of his cancer diagnosis. I wanted to listen to this book as soon as I heard it was available on his interview on the Chris Evans radio show. The book sums up Chris Hoy as the beautiful person that he is. Kind, caring, compassionate and amazingly focussed on his approach to all things in life from riding a bike to Olympic standard to looking out for his wife & kids. The book is a real tribute to his philosophy in life and will help many others get the best out of thier life, whatever the issues. I recently lost my dog Jackson of 13 years Chris’s book has helped me deal with this loss. Thank you Chris. A book everyone should listen to.

Honest and open from a legend

Puts things into perspective…had me in tears multiple times, totally inspiring. Here is a man who has truly lived and continues to do so. Wish him and his family many more years together.

astounding journey

I only heard about Chris's battle abandoned book over the last couple of weeks, I am on a day off and thought I'd try audible for the first, I lived how honest Chris was and never understood prostrate cancer much before and how pains can show up in other ways other than the main diagnosis.
chin up Chris lived the book I couldn't stop listening to it, I had a few tears in my eye listening to it xxx

Book of the Year

Emotional start, and I found myself tearing up countless times while listening. I challenge anyone to not do the same.
I have admired Chris Hoy for years, especially around London 2012. He is an inspiration and I was devastated to learn of his diagnosis. When I discovered he was not only releasing this book, but that he'd be narrating the audiobook, I knew I had to get it. What a truly remarkable man, and I cannot fathom the bravery and resilience of him and his wife over this last year.
Have tissues at the ready, but this is an absolute must read.

Like a love letter to his family and to life

Just a wonderful book. Almost like a manifesto for how to live life well. His love for his family shines through beautifully. His honest descriptions of how to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis and to choose how to approach it is an amazing blueprint. Highly recommend this book. You may need some tissues for the messages to his wife and children though!

Thanks Chris!

This is the book we should all be talking about. Especially us males as we shrug-off toxic masculinity!
