About this listen
A gargantuan horseshoe-shaped ship appears over the mining planet Shānmén, unleashing a black rain of death that creates Xenomorph-like monsters worse than the darkest of nightmares.
As war breaks out among the colonies, a huge ship appears over the UPP mining planet Shānmén, releasing a horror that yields hideous transformations. Rescue is too far away, and the colonists’ only hope appears in the form of the vessel Righteous Fury. It carries the Jackals—an elite mix of former Colonial Marines and Royal Marines. Led by Zula Hendricks, the Jackals seek to rescue the few survivors from the depths of the planet, but have they arrived on time?

Ignore Some Reviews
Initially, from reading the reviews, I was sceptical and almost gave this book a miss. However, I am a big fan of the Alien franchise, and frankly will listen to anything Xenonorph related.
Upon concluding the book, I felt, the reviews refering to the political leaning of this entry were a little harsh.
The Alien story has always been about the Big Corp leaning on the "little guy", with the Aliens being the additional horror aspect breaking that. So, I was confused as to why reviews put this book down for following this formula.
If youre an Alien fan you will enjoy. I would have rated it a little higher, but I have never really been a fan of the Engineer concept from Prometheus onwards. But is was fun.

Disappointing
Have listened to all the A&P books, this is just full of modern day politics. I'm expecting more from an alien book, so far the worst by far.

For hardcore fans only...
Inferno's fall picks up on the 'border bombing' events developed in Free Leagues excellent RPG series, and also loosely ties up with 'Colony War' and 'Into Charybdis'. This overarching plot is by far the books greatest asset as it teases to reveal more about the enigmatic engineers.
Unfortunately, whilst there are plenty of interesting ideas the writing is only so-so, and in places skirts with fan-fiction. Sections of the novel do show promise, particularly the middle act where the inevitable horror erupts, but sadly, a selection of mainly poor and stereotypical characters mixed with cheesy inconsistent action sequences unpin most of the the potential.
To surmise, though there are a scattering memorable moments, it's the second disappointing Alien novel in a row, perhaps slightly weaker (though less misguided) than Colony War.
A final note on the narration, whilst I found it bareable after a while, Juliette Iron's delivery and emphasis is rather strange, try before you buy.

Really enjoyed this one
I really enjoyed this one.
Ignore the people who say it is the same. They all are to a certain extent.
This one had a few new twists and sets the series just for an interesting new direction.

Enjoyable night time listening
The synthetic daughter of Davis is an excellent character and horror and tragedy abound as mysteries unfold and survivors try to elude the various xenomorphic mutations . ..an imaginative world and future with lots of descriptive pleasure. I am there with the Jackels (marines) , then deep in the mines , but no face huggers or queen .,so a bit more promethius than Alien . Thanks for an expressive interesting escapist read

Didn't finish, repetitive pattern narration
Part way through chapter 7 whilst driving, I realised once again I didn't know what was going on.
Mid-Mid-Mid-Hi-Loooooooow
Mid-Mid-Mid-Hi-Loooooooow
Mid-Mid-Mid-Hi-Loooooooow
That's all my mind would hear, the narrator's repetitive speech pattern, often through characters spoken words stopping the differentiation.
There were moments showing what she was capable of, when there was hurrying or swearing in anger. It would break the sleep spell, but I'd be lost as to what happened up to that point.
obviously capable, but called it in that week and defaulted to 'putting the kids to bed' voice.
I can't comment much on the story.

One of the strongest entries
Well written, great interesting characters and world building, and very cool expansion of threads introduced in Prometheus and Covenant. Well performed on the narration front as well!

Great story, narrator poor
I think I would have enjoyed this story so much more. The narrator is so dull and monotone, appearing to want to finish as quickly as possible but with none of the impetus and thrill of the story. The interesting characters and situations are lost to the blandness of the reading. I was regularly having to replay parts as I was tuning her out. It almost ruined the story and annoyed me often in the first half. Zula Hendricks is a great Alien character I was happy to see return and I hope she and the Jackals return soon. There is a great story brewing I would love to follow.
I'm dyslexic so audible is my means of reading, for me this choice of narrator was a huge let down.

Great story, terrible narator
I've really enjoyed the story arc so far, but really struggled to listen to this book purely because of the narration. I would have enjoyed it much more with someone else (sorry).

One to remember, stands out but not alone
I have a large number of Alien stories on Audible and feel I can judge this one fairly. Right now I am hoping for this to become a series as I'd like to know what happens next.
However, when I first began to listen I was confused as it seems to have had a book before this? I will look into that, but it meant that I had to listen 3 times before I could place the different parts, one on and one off planet...including which planet! That could have been handled better, perhaps in the introduction? Anyway, I am pleased I persevered. This book will be listened to many times, and I really do hope that the author is currently working on the next edition! I'd like to know more about Mae and how the top secret team do.
