About this listen
Alan Bennett reads these three enchanting Doctor Dolittle stories.
Doctor Dolittle has an extraordinary talent - he can talk to the animals! Taught by his parrot, Polynesia, he is soon able to chat to every kind of creature - and his skill leads him into all sorts of adventures.
In The Story of Doctor Dolittle, the Doctor and his pets set sail for Africa to save the monkeys - but they face great danger and challenges, including a sinking ship and Barbary pirates....
The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle finds Doctor Dolittle on the high seas once again, this time with his young friend Tommy Stubbins. The pair head for Spider Monkey Island, a mysterious place of magic and secrets....
Doctor Dolittle's Circus sees the Doctor in need of money, so he and his Pushmi-Pullyu join the circus. They're such a hit with the other animals that Doctor Dolittle soon finds himself running the show!
Brilliantly read by Alan Bennett, whose delightfully whimsical rendition brings Doctor Dolittle and all his animal friends magically to life, this charming collection of stories will delight listeners young and old.

Love this version all 3 on one credit
Good value for money
Love the narrator Alan Bennett …. He’s a very good writer in his own right so if he feels a books good enough just to read then take it that it’s a brilliant book … I think this has been revised so that no offensive old fashioned terms are used.. the writer would never of wanted to offend anyone so I’m sure would totally of agreed with the revised version…. Hugh Lofting was a loving decent human being …. He loved all creation … was against all cruelty to animals … during a time when most people felt animalS were put on the earth just for our entertainment Hugh bravely exposed the cruelty of bull fighting …. Animals kept in bad conditions for circuses and street performers etc Educating children and adults in these areas when most people didn’t even think about the animals welfare was very brave thing to do ……
The stories are all exciting and enjoyable and layered so listening to these stories are never boring … Alan Bennett brings that coziness to the stories….. so it’s exciting but comforting at the same time …. Get cozy and enjoy !!!!!

3rd Listen
My 6 year old daughter has just listened to the whole of Dr Doolittle for the 3rd time since schools closed in March. We love the characters, their adventures and most of all the animals.

Story is good but the narrator better.
I love this story but it is narrated by Alan Bennett and so the story is doubly delicious.

A classic, beautifully narrated
I could happily listen to Alan Bennett reading the phonebook, so I was very excited about this title. It did not disappoint: a beautiful children’s literature classic, excellently narrated. Alan Bennett gives Dr Dolittle’s animals very distinct voices, an unexpectedly amusing aspect when one is used to his “usual” narration from his diaries. All in all a very enjoyable listen.
