Book 4

This is the 4th audiobook in the Puatera series. These are books I would listen to again and again. I am really enjoying them! I will follow the rest of the books in this series.

A different path into Puatera Online

While this is the 4th book in the series, it starts from a distinctly different point from the first three, those focus on an already established NPC's adventures, whereas in this one the focus is primarily on a human character entering the game for the first time.

The main character, Emma (Akillia) has some slight familiarity with the world of video games and mmorpgs, but definitely starts out the book as a newbie, making the sort of mistakes and learning new skills you would expect, but her progression is rapid and some may find her progression a bit too rapid as she goes from a new character to chosen one with little time being spent in between the two.

While this story works as a standalone book, it also ties into the overall storyline with threads from the previous books adding to your appreciation of this instalment and putting down it's own threads for subsequent books.

The narrator nicely enhances the book with a good overall performance, a pleasant and clear tone ensures the book as a whole is enjoyable to listen to and the different characters are voiced with sufficiently distinctive tones.

Overall, this is an enjoyable listen in it's own right and a strong addition to the series too.

Great book and narration

There was a different feel to book 4 compared to the first story arc, not a as gritty as books 1 to 3 and more Litrpg elements. However, it was just as enjoyable and with the book revealing the ties to the previous books towards the end you start to get a better sense of the story and a few ah moments. While a narrator change is not normally a good thing it made sense as this book was from the pov of a different MC, the narrator, Anneliese Rennie did fantastic job, hitting her stride a short way into the book. Overall this was a fantastic read/listen and sets up the next arc nicely.
