About this listen

THE LESBIAN LOVE STORY YOU'VE BEEN DYING TO READ. Ash Persaud is about to become a reaper in the afterlife, but she is determined to see her first love Poppy Morgan again, the only thing that separates them is death.

Car headlights. The last thing Ash hears is the snap of breaking glass as the windscreen hits her and breaks into a million pieces like stars. But she made it, she's still here. Or is she?

This New Year's Eve, Ash is gets an RSVP from the afterlife she can't decline: to join a clan of fierce girl reapers who take the souls of the city's dead to await their fate.

But Ash can't forget her first love, Poppy, and she will do anything to see her again ... even if it means they only get a few more days together. Dead or alive ...

NOT EVEN DEATH CAN TEAR THEM APART.

This was a really lovely and enjoyable love story, well worth listening to. The narration was perfect!

A fantastic love story.

so sweet, so sad, so perfect. it is written beautifully, if slightly repetitive in places. the concept is tragic and heart warming all at once. the romance between the main character and her love interest is a slightly too instagram-perfect u-haul in ways, but it is a sweet rendition of what's it's like to experience your first love. i found Ash to be slightly annoying in the second half of the book, just thinking about Poppy and rarely about anything else or anyone else she used to know. i also wish the other characters were more explored, like Esen, Dev and Deborah. how did they die etc. and the lore of the world could have been expanded upon/clarified more in places, as Byrne has come up with such an intriguing concept here it's a shame not to flesh it out more, as i was left feeling very curious and a little unsatisfied as i wanted to know more. but overall this was one of the best things i've read in a long time. it makes you reflect, on life, and death. don't let the cheesy cover art deter you, this is well worth the read! even if you're a little older than the intended target audience, like myself, i'm in my 20s, i enjoyed it in a very nostalgic way. this would make a great YA miniseries - someone needs to claim the TV rights!

a book i will remember for the rest of my life
