About this listen
Father John controls everything inside The Fence. And Father John likes rules. Especially about never talking to Outsiders. Because Father John knows the truth. He knows what is right and what is wrong. He knows what is coming.
Moonbeam is starting to doubt, though. She's starting to see the lies behind Father John's words. She wants him to be found out.
What if the only way out of the darkness is to light a fire?

Advertising pays off this time...
A few weeks ago I was travelling from Newcastle Central Station to London Kings Cross. I was a bit late & running to catch my train when I glanced up and saw an ad for 'after the fire'. I quickly took a screenshot and boarded.
I'm so glad I did. This is a superb story. Like the author, I have always had an interest in cults. How they come to pass, how people can be so led by nefarious, self serving egotists.
This book gives a stunning insight into the madness of a fictional cult, loosely based on the infamous Waco siege its characters are plausible and rounded. The narration, excellent.
I don't do 'spoilers'. Try it for yourself. I doubt you'll be disappointed....

Carnegie Shortlist
Wow. Compulsive listening, amazing story one of the best novels I have ever “read” for The Carnegie Medal.
Moonbeam is a great character, mature for her age, good hearted and a survivor.
Excellent novel.
