Summary

You want to know what the worst thing is? It's not the embarrassment, or the looks on people's faces when I tell them what happened. It isn't the pain of him not being there - loneliness is manageable.

The worst thing is not knowing why.

When Justin walks out on Alice on their honeymoon, with no explanation apart from a cryptic note, Alice is left alone and bewildered, her life in pieces.

Then she meets Evelyn, a visitor to the gallery where she works. It's a seemingly chance encounter, but Alice gradually learns that Evelyn has motives, and a heartbreaking story, of her own. And that story has haunting parallels with Alice's life.

As Alice delves into the mystery of why Justin left her, the questions are obvious. But the answers may lie in the most unlikely of places...

After you left

I enjoyed the previous book I read by Carol Mason but I found this story jumped about to much.

a beautiful story

I loved this book and the soft northern accent of the narrator. Compelling and soulful.

Takes me home

As a person who was born and brought up in the area where the story is set it was well discribed and made me quite homesick. The story starts off good, goes down hill bounces about a bit them bounces back up again if you get my meaning.
Not bad but not good either.

disappointing

amazing potential in the story line but awfully told and far to jumpy from past to present tense. first audio book I've not enjoyed and I have nearly 200 in my library! I enjoyed one of carols other books so maybe it was the monotone narration?

After you left

Good story line, difficult to follow at times. Too many words, needs editing, making the book shorter.

Mediocre at best

I must have missed the point to this book. I was waiting for it to get somewhere when it abruptly ended. Story was weak. I think there was supposed to be a twist, but if it was supposed to be then it was highly predictable. The message of the story seemed to be that being unfaithful to your spouse is fine as long as you are in love, which I find morally dubious. Naration was okay. I listened to this on Kindle Unlimited and do a lot of driving; if I had paid for this or had little time to listen, I would have felt quite rather duped.

Awful narration

Couldn't get past first chapter. Narrator speaks in a whisper. Shame as I think it would be a good story. Will revert to book version.
