Summary

For more than half a century, Americans have been captivated by the Kennedys - their joy and heartbreak, tragedy and triumph, the dark side and the remarkable achievements. In this ambitious and sweeping account, Taraborrelli continues the family chronicle begun with his best-selling Jackie, Ethel, Joan and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the years "after Camelot."

He describes the challenges Bobby's children faced as they grew into adulthood; Eunice and Sargent Shriver's remarkable philanthropic work; the emotional turmoil Jackie faced after JFK's murder and the complexities of her eventual marriage to Aristotle Onassis; the sudden death of JFK JR; and the stoicism and grace of his sister Caroline. He also brings into clear focus the complex and intriguing story of Edward "Teddy" and shows how he influenced the sensibilities of the next generation and challenged them to uphold the Kennedy name.

Based on extensive research, including hundreds of exclusive interviews, After Camelot captures the wealth, glamour, and fortitude for which the Kennedys are so well known. With this book, J. Randy Taraborrelli takes readers on an epic journey as he unfolds the ongoing saga of the nation's most famous - and controversial - family.

Excellent...didn't want it to end

Incredible narrator, he both told the story and acted some of the voices too. Excellently written. 100% listen to this, I slowed it rewound it, everything possible so that it didn't have to end. 5 stars for everything.

Entertaining But an Idealistic view

As an avid Kennedy fan, I've read an awful lot of books on the subject. To sum up; entertaining but rose tinted. I did particularly enjoy learning more about the Shriver's.

An excellent book

I have a long standing fascination with the Kennedy family and this book was simply brilliant. I think the author covered just about everything. I think he did it honestly and sensitively.. At the end of the day they’re just humans with their triumphs and failures. I also feel they had more than their fair share of shocks and heartbreaks and all this is covered. The narrator’s voice is lovely and I know I will revisit this many more times.

Excellent work

All too often books about the Kennedy family fall into one of two catagories: sickly sweet and fawning or harsh and accusatory. This book, however gives what I believe to be a fair and balanced view of this famous family. It is very well researched and written. The chap who reads it is also very good. If you want a factual account which is stranger than any fiction, get this book.

Great insight into the Kennedy family

Always been interested in the above family so was a must listen, tragedies, triumphs ...so much to get through..most of it covered here, good narration if a little annoying when a female voice is needed! But overall recommended.

The full story

This is a comprehensive account of three generations of this tragic family; many of whom gave and are giving service to their country. Who gave lip service to religion but lived like the devil. Their characters are engagingly drawn by the author. But no expression of sympathy for their victims. Still, keep a box of tissues handy as you listen. 'Cause it's a tear jerker.
