Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Brendan has always lived a careful, constrained life. A salesman who never liked the work, he's a man who has stayed in his marriage and his faith because it was what was expected of him. But now, having lost his job after corporate downsizing and on the cusp of 60, he finds himself scrambling to somehow stay afloat in the only Los Angeles work on offer to a man his age - driving for Uber.
When one of his rides, a retired professor named Elise, asks to be dropped off outside an abortion clinic where she now volunteers, Brendan finds himself literally driving right into the virulent epicentre of one of the major issues of our time, engulfing his life in the process.
A novel of high suspense and considerable moral complexity, Afraid of the Light is a tough, affecting social thriller that speaks volumes about the corrosive divisions of our troubled times.
Critic reviews
"Kennedy is skilled at zigzag plotting, blending domestic twists with turns created by global affairs." (Observer)

Love a DK novel
Really enjoyed the twists in the story and good presentation. The ending was a little disappointing though. Felt there was another chapter to be had.

Excellent
Douglas Kennedy at his best.
A difficult topic explored in a fictional way but non the less dealt with an issue which is ever present in this world of ours. Sympathetically written and hopefully will not upset either view of abortion..

Never disappointed with Douglas Kennedy.
Never disappointed with Douglas Kennedy. His books just grip the reader from start to finish. The very best of my favourite authors. Robert G Slade's narration was excellent and believable

Love DK
Good story about a very topical subject but not up there with the big picture or heart of betrayal and so many other great titles. Still very enjoyable.

Disappointed
If the book was written 10 years ago it would be more relevant. Didn’t feel like it was written by an experienced author. Only got slightly interesting half way into book. Sorry. Wouldn’t recommend it.
