Summary

Explore the captivating life of Aaron Burr and his duel with Alexander Hamilton.

Based on his early achievements, Aaron Burr, Jr., should have become an obscure but respected figure in American history. An officer in the Continental Army, a high-flying lawyer, and an influential politician, his career peak was becoming the third vice president in US history.

But after all these achievements, Burr's name is now associated with corruption and cruelty. He killed a man in an illegal duel while in office, and interest in that man, Alexander Hamilton, has revived Burr's reputation as one of history's villains. It was a reputation earned not just through the duel, in which he killed one of the brightest lights in the political firmament, but through a treasonous conspiracy after leaving the vice presidency.

Who was Aaron Burr? What drove him to such achievements and such failures? And how did a respected politician become a publicly reviled villain? Pick up this audiobook now to find out.

This audiobook covers Aaron Burr as:

  • A young man
  • A revolutionary
  • A politician
  • A vice president
  • A duelist
  • A conspirator
  • And an exile

Nice

Any additional comments?

What motivates him? How did he get so far into the crime without the authorities intervening to prevent it? Aaron Burr is a historical figure, whom we remember marginally at best from our United States history classes, with vague opprobrium.

It explains the background of Aaron Burr, his interesting life, the duel between Alexander Hamilton, the background of Alexander Hamilton and the times of those formative years. I found it very interesting, I think you will also.

This is a short masterpiece

Any additional comments?

If you have read a Burr biography, you will not likely find new historic incidents here, nor do I think that was Professor Brands' intent - so much as to very deftly present the emotion of the events of Arron Burr's life. And, he has done that very well.

The untold side of the story of Aaron Burr

Any additional comments?

Very interesting view of a much maligned military and political figure. Interesting man, makes me look at early American history differently.

Well written and engaging

Any additional comments?

One takeaway from this was that all the founders were land speculators, using their government positions to finagle loans and allocations of Indian land. Seems like a theme that persists throughout US history to the current day!

The Duel

Any additional comments?

This book is full of information that I never knew or had forgotten. It was exciting to see that both men were too stubborn too and ambitious by their own personalities to stop the duel that coast Alexander Hamilton his life

A great book. Gives interesting insight into a man who is often vilified, but has more depth than we usually hear.

A worthy Book

Any additional comments?

It does, however, perhaps overcorrect and veers toward hagiography instead of biography as Burr is portrayed favorably at every turn.
