Very exviting
A brilliant glimpse into the cutthroat world of horse racing. There is action packed suspense in every chapter. A must listen during the colder months.

A rather low-powered narrative...
...A not very gripping whodunnit with not very gripping characters (two donkeys excepted), so the perfect reading for people on holiday who like to read a chapter or two while stretched out on a deckchair or beside a swimming pool.

A gentle who dun it
An Enjoyable mystery that has enough to intrigue but filled with gratuitous violence. Would recommend this series of books.

poorly researched and edited
the author and the publishers editor seemed to know very little about national Hunt racing. the person in charge of the grooms it's known as the head lad not the head man.
the description of the race describes it as a chase short for steeplechase the obstacles the horses jump over are called fences but but in the description of the end of the race talks about jumping the last hurdle which are only jumped in hurdle races not chases.
the European beauty when she arrives at the meeting is is said to smooth her tight fitting skirt as she sits down but later treats the male members of the committee to a view of the cleavage at the front of her dress. did she change part way through the meeting?
I liked the story but found the plot and the character portrayal a little bit one dimensional. didn't enjoy as much as the previous novel

Liked the 1st book so tried this one
I enjoyed the 1st book so I gave this one a go. I wasn't disappointed. I found the characters were more developed, plot lines a bit confusing but enjoyable. The narration was excellent really brought the story alive. Looking forward to book 3.

Very enjoyable second in series.
This is the second book set in Somerset and is a brilliant listen. More used to gritty crime novels, I really enjoyed the fact that yes, there are murders (!) but it isn’t graphic, no one swears, no sex & with characters who have come even more to life since the first book. The narrator is also perfect and I hope the author writes more in this series with Charlotte Strevens again doing a fabulous performance!

cosy country murderer mystery
The author clearly adores her native county and village going ons. The narrator was good, nice easy to listen to voice. However, I detected some casual racism with a reference to inscrutable Chinese and heavy drinking Irishman. Perhaps diversity was uncharted territory to this usually white wash type of novel.
