About this listen
Bologna: city of secrets, suspicion...and murder.
When the body of a radical protestor is found floating in one of Bologna's underground canals, it seems that most of the city is ready to blame the usual suspects: the police.
But when private investigator Daniel Leicester, son-in-law to the former chief of police, receives a call from the dead man's lover, he follows a trail that begins in the 1970s and leads all the way to the rotten heart of the present-day political establishment.
Beneath the beauty of the city, Bologna has a dark underside, and English detective Daniel must unravel a web of secrets, deceit and corruption - before he is caught in it himself.
A dark and atmospheric crime thriller set in the beautiful Italian city of Bologna, perfect for fans of Donna Leon, Michael Dibdin and Philip Gwynne Jones.

Very dry
This has all the ingredients to make me love it - one of my favourite narrators (Jonathan Keeble is amazing); set in Italy and it's a crime thriller - and yet it somehow utterly failed to engage me. It just seems very dry and dull and I couldn't engage with any of the characters. It's not a bad book but...

British detective gets into all sorts of murkiness and deals with a stroppy teenager in Bologna
Actually my heading probably sums it all up! The crime is suitably messy and twisty, the relationship with the daughter feels authentic and I enjoyed it.

Narrator too fast.
The narrator sounds like he has a train to catch, had to keep going back to listen again. Not finished it yet but will find it hard to reach the end because of this. Pity because otherwise good

Insight
Loved it and it was interesting to learn about Italian Politics whether true or not. Great narration.

Very Enjoyable
I wasn’t sure if this book would hold my attention as initially there was too much political confusion for me which felt somewhat ‘heavy’ & ‘messy’. Anyway I persevered and I am glad that I did because I enjoyed it.
I found this book on audible whilst searching books by my favourite narrators. Jonathan Keeble is excellent and I am going to try book 2.
