Summary
Dark witches here, bloody witches there, evil witches everywhere.
At home, my life is amazing, thanks to my boyfriend, Cosmo Ono-Nai, and his wonderful family that I’ve become a part of. I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my life.
But work is a different story.
All anyone’s talking about is the Red Cloth this, the Red Cloth that. I can’t escape them, and all I really want is to find someplace the witches can’t reach, take my family—my pride—there, and hide them away from the world.
But I can’t. I’ll do everything in my power to protect them, and everyone else, from the building threat. There’s this dread building in my chest about what’s to come, and I have a feeling the Red Cloth is planning something big. I only wish I knew what so I could keep Cos, Jude, and the rest of our family safe.
A Purpose That Restores Us is a 119K novel and the third book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to listen to the series in order because it has an ongoing storyline, but there is NO cliffhanger.

What family really means
Mads is a mage who loves his family. His found family. He’s as close to his dyad, Jude, as anyone can be. As mages, they’re bound. He’s also found love with his lion shifter partner Cosmo. The problem? Mads doesn’t know how to admit that love. Because with love comes pain. Except he’s been taken in by this shifter family and they now view him as one of their own
But danger lurks. Their work to save the world from otherworldly creatures is never-ending. But then there’s the threat from within that they must deal with. One of the people they work with is putting them all in danger. Mads views his job as taking care of Cos, Jude, and their family. In the end, he might not even be able to take care of himself.
This is a good read that intersperses action with calmer moments of relationship building and reflection. Partners. Parents. Friends. Stuff that makes real life worth living. I enjoyed Zachary Zaba’s performance and I can’t wait for the next book.

Intense story with brilliant narration
Zachary Zaba again brings a fantastic narrative to this much loved series. The voices he provides for all of the characters fit their personalities, I especially love Mads with his ability to be the snarkiest snark but quickly switching to caring for those important to him. The intensity of some of the scenes comes across really well as the voice draws me even more into the story, keeping me gripped to everything going on throughout.
This series just gets better as we have more growth and development in the characters and their relationships as well as the continuing and intensifying drama that is happening with the overall series plot. *To be read/listened to as a part of the series and in order.*
The threat of the Red Cloth intensifies and brings dramatic scenes with action, pain and interesting developments for everyone involved. Without knowing where the threat is going to come from, it leaves them searching helplessly for clues but they have this along with the constant tears and fights with the taragons that come through. There are a couple of scenes that brought a tear to my eye with the emotion that I felt coming from those involved. Having read these characters through five books now (including novellas), you can feel how strong their bonds are and just how deep they go, especially with Madeo and Jude.
Mads and Cosmo are constantly strengthening their relationship but here, we also see it happening with others. Mads and Charlie spend quality time together, as well as with the children that were brought into the pride after tragedy in the previous book. Cosmo and Jude are also working to build something together, knowing that each is now a necessary and permanent part of Mads's life. I also like how their building their friendship with others they work with, Harriet, Ash and his team.
This is a fantastic addition to the series! I am a huge fan of this author's and always enjoy and am in awe of the world that she is able to create along with the imagination of the plot, characters and details throughout the whole series. A must for fans of her's and of fantasy romance.

Very good
I love this series and thought the book was as good as the others. It was filled with lots of action and surprises. My only complaint is the narration. I felt some of the voices didn't fit the characters, for example Charlie. I think his voice was too deep for someone in his early to mid twenties and with his playful personality. I also thought that in a previous book it said that Ash's voice was deeper than what was portrayed in this book. Also, there were a couple of times when I wouldn't have known who was speaking without the book saying who was speaking at the time because some voices sounded a little too similar. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

Another outstanding, action-packed adventure
This series never ceases to captivate me, and this chapter of Madeo, Cosmo, and the pride's adventure was another epic one. The Ono-Nai pride has firmly secured themselves a place in my heart, and I adored getting to see their sweet family moments in between the high-stakes action sequences, shocking reveals, and terrifying attacks.
My mind is still racing from some of the things I learned in this book, and I'm so excited and scared to find out what's coming next for these fighters. This particular book was especially heavy on the Red Cloth suspense plotline, and, as engaging as the reveals were, the fights and injuries these characters had to deal with were truly horrific. I've never felt as desperate and unsure as I did while I was reading, and though the pride fought valiantly to keep their loved ones safe, I felt how stretched thin they were at times. The tarasecta surprise was just one example of how this universe keeps getting more and more wild, and I just know Michele Notaro has more chaos and destruction waiting for these beloved characters before their adventure ends.
But this story wasn't all battles and regrouping. In between the veil tears and witch fights, I got to see how loving and supportive the Ono-Nai pride could be. It filled me with joy to see Cosmo and Jude spearheading a committee for magi rights together, and the way the pride welcomed Ash with open arms was seriously amazing. Michele Notaro has managed to turn this group of co-workers into a big, warm family, and I really enjoyed getting to experience all the little everyday moments that made up the spaces in between their work lives. In addition to the pride as a whole, Cosmo and Madeo continued to grow their love into something unstoppable, and I thought my heart was going to burst when they finally confessed their love. There's also the not-so-insignificant fact that somehow Madeo and Cosmo's soul bond appears to be blending their shifter and magi abilities?? I'm itching to understand this more in the next book.
I never really had any doubts that I'd love this story, but now that I've finished it, I can say with certainty that it was another smashing success. The writing had a sense of urgency that constantly propelled the action forward, the suspense plotlines constantly kept me guessing, and the characters I'm very much attached to kept showing how resilient, loyal, and caring they will always be.

I was crying my eyes out - there was a touch and go moment that left my heart feeling like it was splintering apart. I’m absolutely loving this series! Mads, Jude, Cos and the rest of the pride have stolen my heart from the very first book.
This was an action packed instalment, full of danger, betrayal, friendship and so much love.
Zachary Zaba was absolutely amazing and did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life.

MM - Fantasy, great series
Not a stand-alone. You need to start with book one as the story is a continuation and well worth reading.
Great world-building, and the characters have good backstories. We meet Madeo and Jude, both Magi, who are of the lowest group living in this new world. First, there are Humans, Shifters and then the Magi, the order of society.
Cosmo is the leader of a pride group of cat shifters and the Alpha leader of the task force group, which Madeo and Jude are part of. Cosmo and Madeo, a Shifter and a Magi, are in a relationship and part of Cosmos pride.
This book's complex relationships between the shifters and Magi are wound effortlessly. Such a great read/listen.
Zachary Zaba did an amazing job of the narration. I did, however, have to speed up the narration to 1.20 on audible, but this is usual for me.
