About this listen

A Poem For Every Day of the Year is a magnificent collection of 366 of the greatest poems in the English language, compiled by the award-winning poetry curator Allie Esiri. The collection is passionately narrated by Helena Bonham Carter and Simon Russell Beale, with introductions read by Allie Esiri and contributions from Damian Lynch and Peter Forbes.

Reflecting the changing seasons and linking to events on key dates – funny for April Fool's Day, festive for Christmas – the book is inspiring, informative and empowering.

Perfect for any age, the poems are familiar favourites and exciting new discoveries. T.S. Eliot, A.A. Milne, John Keats, William Shakespeare and Christina Rossetti sit alongside Seamus Heaney, Wendy Cope, Maya Angelou and Kae Tempest. This soul-enhancing book will keep you company every day of the year.

I purchased the hard copy of this to accompany the audible version,I think it is nice to have both versions.
The narrators are brilliant and they make the poems even more special!

loved the poetry, struggled with narrator.

really loved the poetry but struggled with the female narrator's voice. Felt over-done and unnatural.

Brilliant narrations that reminds you why poetry is best read aloud

Helen Bonham Carter's voice and range amplifies many of the poems she reads here. Simon also does a great job. I have listened to these poems 2 years in a row and will recommence tomorrow (Jan 1st 2025). Listening to one poem every day is my mindful moment.

Enjoyable Year Long Journey

Breadth and depth for those like me who do not take poetry too seriously

Very informative

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio. My 6 year old son enjoys listening to it whilst he falls asleep. The poems are well read and Helena Bonham Carter is very engaging. I would definitely recommend it.

Great works

Here are some of the world's best poems I can connect with.
Poems so great that it makes me believe that human beings are gods.
To mention but a few:
The pulley
Friendship
But I can't
Refugees
How many seconds in a minute
Give
Right words
Who has seen the winds

Great format 1 poem a day. like Helens BC

It's easy to access this anthology of poems which also has information on each poet before the poem. I felt Helena Bonham Carter (of course) read very well with feeling.
Some are humorous some touching most are worth listening to
However , I found the male readar very deep, lispy and racy , it didn't worth for some of the poems. not so easy to listen to get the feeling of the poems

Good selection well organised

More than the usual amount of work went into to producing this audio book. Each chapter is a different poem and the PDF which comes with it allows you to easily choose which ones to listen to or locate those you particularly enjoyed. The selection appears to cover the most well known British poets, so there should be at least a few that you like - assuming you like some poetry!
