Wonderful and endearing

This comes across as an incredibly endearing story that is full of personal modesty. King brings you in really close to the events of her life - she is candid and trusting - and you feel so close to what she is saying. I swear it is like having her sat in a room with you and by the end of the journey - when the story ends - it is like you have met this incredible lady.

She has boundless generosity of spirit, she has forgiveness for those that have been rude or have crossed her. A good example is John Lennon - a notoriously rude man with a self confessed problem with violence towards women particularly. Despite his latter day Sainthood, ever music biography I have read that mentioned Lennon talks about him as an arsehole, providing the anecdotes to back it up. Sure enough King will tell you about her experience of being abused verbally by him - and the crushing combination of disappointment and hurt that came with it. She continues in her story to tell about her later reconciliation and the excuses that Lennon produced for his behaviour.

I loved this book. It seemed imbued with her humility and her joy. It doesn't shrink away from the tragedies or the controversies of her life.

Her take on drugs - and particularly cannabis - is refreshing too.

I really enjoyed this. I do recommend it.

"Never meet your heroes"

What disappointed you about A Natural Woman?

Mawkish, incredibly detailed over early life- and just boring. I fast forwarded through to get to her success but even that it was turgid and I gave up. This book needs editing, it is written as a stream of hippy consciousness.

What could Carole King have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not written it

Would you be willing to try another one of Carole King’s performances?

I adore her music but this is just twaddle of the highest order

What character would you cut from A Natural Woman?

The author and her grand parents

Any additional comments?

The worst book I have heard on Audible
