About this listen

London, early 1950s. Marcia Beasley of St John's Wood is discovered dead in her home, naked and covered with a coal scuttle. Detective Sergeant Greenleaf is tasked with solving the crime and bringing meaning to her gruesome death, and it seems her whole social circle have secrets to hide and grudges to bear.

Who, for example, is the limping midnight visitor? Is the bibulous priest as ingenious as he seems? And will Mrs Burkiss ever yield her keys to the broom cupboard?

Critic reviews

"A perfect mixture of funny and acerbic, with a cast of colourful characters and a school of well-deployed red herrings, A Little Murder is wholly delightful." (Laura Wilson, author of Stratton’s War)

Long and a little too complex…

Too many characters to keep track of. Story quite good but takes some concentrating to really follow it at all times.

Very enjoyable bit of fictional history

Nicely paced. Well observed. Lots of snobbery and class, mixed with history. A good listen.

Great listen

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Witty, charming and entertaining in an old school way, with great characters. I’ve already purchased the next in the series and can’t wait to get started.

Am engaging little tale with some interesting twists.

I am never completely relaxed about murder being treated with levity. blah, blah to makeup the ridiculous need for 15 words!

Lively tale and wonderful narration

This well-plotted, literate and amusing novel was wonderfully enlivened by marvellous narration. Great fun. 15 word minimum is a bore.

Too many characters, not great narration, gave up!

Too many characters and story flitted around quite a lot, this was made even more difficult with the poor narration. It was almost impossible to keep up with which character was talking, I listen to approximately 40 audio books a year and this one beat me, couldn’t finish it as I spent so long going back to try to figure out who the narrator was trying to characterise as the voice changes were so small

Shame as story seemed to be trotting along well

Couldn't finish this audiobook

Very rarely do I return a book without finishing it. There were too many characters, and I didn't warm to any of them apart from Rosie. The narrator didn't manage to differentiate sufficiently between the various characters. The plot was convoluted. In the end I couldn't be bothered to keep going to the end, and find out who the murderer was. I won't be reading anything else by this author.

Just like an Agatha Christie Novel!

This book read so well and made me feel the same type of fondness that I feel with Agatha Christie stories. Absolutely worth a read/ listen all the way through.

A surprisingly good story

Some of these collection’s can be a bit too lacking in storyline but this one was good made better by good narration by someone who can pronounce English English!
