Blast from the past literally!

Read this about 20 years ago, loved it then and was delighted to find it on Audible.
Really enjoyed it all over again.

Brilliant!

Loved this book - enjoyed it so much and didn't want it to end! The concept of time travel between the 16th and 19th centuries was fascinating and life comparisons interesting.

A Bittersweet Love Story that Transcends Time

I first read this book when I was a teenager. I was completely enthralled by the historical and time travel elements in this book, my very first of this genre. I could not put this book down. As I was following Dougless and Nicholas adventure and journey of self discovery, I was also discovering all these fascinating things with them for the first time as a young girl from the Philippines.

As an adult reading and listening to this book again, including the author’s reason for writing, put this book in a different light and perspective. This is not your typical romance with a happily ever after book, there are more to it. Ms. Deveraux evokes a lot of emotions from me even to this day. I’m not the type of reviewer to write spoiler, however, I suggest to first read the author’s reason for writing A Knight in Shining Armor and I will leave it at that. Whether you enjoy the book or not after reading the author’s note at the end of the book is down to you as a reader and listener. But for me this book will always hold a very special place in my heart and still remain an all time favourite even more so now that it’s narrated by Steve West. Over 16 hours of outstanding performance. Every single character in the book have a distinct voice and personality that is just an absolute pleasure to listen.

Just beautiful

One of the first books I read as a teen. Never loses its magic. The narrator does very well, especially as the voice of Nicolas! As Douglas, it’s irritatingly ‘wimpy’ at times, BUT doing the voice of a woman in distress I’d imagist not the easiest! Love love the book. Loved loved this audio equally as much. Highly recommend

Good listen

I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the readers voice although I do sometimes struggle with male voices reading romance but by 3/4 of the way through the heroine, Douglass, started grating on me somewhat. The apparent days upon days of endless tears, her continued failure to see others points of view, started to niggle and I was ready for the end. A good read/listen, enjoyed, but would never read again (I’m one of those that can pick up a book years later snd read again with as much enjoyment as the first read).

Not her Best.

My first impression after 50mins into this book is that Douglas is either very very stupid or likes being a doormat, cause apparently she not only lets her family mock her and walk all over her but also the man she deems perfect marriage material. She has medieval coins in her hand and can’t tell the difference between medieval coins and normal everyday coins. She’s supposed to be a school teacher!! How can you not tell? The first this about being a teacher is that you’re curious about everything! She just gives the coins for train fair without even giving them a second glance. I mean seriously, you’re in a new country wouldn’t you look at your coins carefully to see that you have exact fare. Even though you’re a teacher in the US you do learn about English currency and wouldn’t any teacher look at the coins to see if they are the same as the ones in the pictures from the time she taught. She is seriously being airheaded. I despise the author for creating such a character. A disgrace to the female kind. I love JD's other titles but this short of turning my stomach.
