About this listen
The fourth adventure in the Brontë Mysteries series.
Haworth 1847 - Anne and Emily Brontë have had their books accepted for publication, while Charlotte's has been rejected everywhere, creating a strained atmosphere at the parsonage.
At the same time, a shocking court case has recently concluded, acquitting a workhouse master of murdering his wife by poison. Everyone thinks this famously odious and abusive man is guilty. However, he insists he is many bad things but not a murderer. When an attempt is made on his life, he believes it to be the same person who killed his wife and applies to the detecting sisters for their help.
Despite reservations, they decide that perhaps, as before, it is only they who can get to the truth and prove him innocent - or guilty - without a shadow of doubt.

Fabulous
Yet again Ellis Bell has pulled off a double feat: bringing the Brontë sisters to vibrant life and creating a plot that twists as tight as a hangman’s noose. A great book.

Enthralling, Gripping and beyond heart- warming
What a wrench to finish this book. I’m left wanting so much more of this wonderful family of women. Charlotte, Emily and Anne feel like friends. I’m left running off for my copy of Jane Eyre! A beautifully written tale that wonderfully describes female friendship in good times and hard times. I’ve loved this series of books and see that they have naturally come to an end. What loss I feel. I’ve done them all by audio book as they are so well read. Immersing myself in the story whenever I can be alone. Thankyou for writing them!
