About this listen

Gina and Sally Makepiece have inherited a stall in the French House - an antiques centre nestled in the heart of the English countryside. Gina is determined to drag the French House and its grumpy owner into the 21st century.

Bearing all the attributes of a modern-day Mr Rochester, Matthew Ballinger is less than happy with the whirlwind that has arrived on his doorstep. The last thing either of them want is to fall in love. But will a trip to France change their minds?

Right book, wrong narrator

I have enjoyed reading all of Katie Fforde's books, her characters are always down to earth and likeable. I didn't experience the same enjoyment with this book, and that had a lot to do with the narrator's sing song voice. It was just too jolly hockey sticks for me and was very grating at times. I have listened to other books with the same narrator, and haven't noticed this before. Like the first reviewer, I wish I had purchased the paperback version instead.

A Katie afforded classic

I loved this book. The characters are good and the narrator was excellent doing the different voices in a great story.

loved the book but the reader!!

I enjoyed the book as I have all Katie Fforde's books but the readers voice grated on me especially when she attempted to do the different characters. It put me off listening to it and I bought the book!

Another classic Katie Fforde

Sally, Gina and Matthew, antiques and upcycling, save the antiques centre aka The French House, two sisters on a mission and one large dog and more besides, are all included here. There's so mucha in this book, it's hard to pick out a single theme. Always something happening and enjoyable.

Excellent.

Katie Fforde hits the mark again.

Believable story line and lovely engaging characters.

Lovely to get the feeling of being transported between the UK and France.

Gives you a good sense of actually being present in situ in among all the Antiques and wanting to help raise cash to save the business so the ‘nasty woman’ doesn’t get her hands on it…

Most definitely 5 stars out of 5 stars.

Antiques and Romance

Loved it. Katie Fford is my favourite author of romantic fiction. She's expert in bringing to life the characters. This was just as good as her others . The male in it was rather old fashioned, and his voice was pompous , but it suited him. I really like Jilly Bond as narrator.
